I could honestly listen to David for hours. One of my favorite horticulture YouTube experts. Love the content. Love your simple but informative explanation on virtually everything. Keep up the great work

I'm so glad that I accidentally came across your CHANNEL on YOUTUBE! .. I have had a WHITE Lilac for years now and I only ever get very Small flowers and only in Early Spring here in NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. Now I'm so happy because i now know what the problem might be. Thank you for Sharing your Knowledge... very much enjoyed the Video and very much Appreciated.

I enjoy the host’s comments, he seems to know this topic well. It’s a shame the camera person didn’t focus in as the pruning was happening. The viewer is left to speculate what the host is talking about. Sigh…

Smelling good brings back memories of the past and grandmothers and mother’s always growing these. I have one big one now.
  • I'm in the Vancouver, BC area. My lilac is in a good spot I think, but I've stupidly over-pruned it and I've got no flowers. And I KNOW they thrive on neglect. I'm an idiot. I'll get it right next year. I haven't ruined my wisteria though, tons of flowers and stunning scent. Best ever.

I love bloomerang too. It smells divine. I trained mine into a standard next to my rear patio and she's done beautiful !
  • Thanks! Lilacs are great - they love the cold, don't need fertilizer, grow in poor soil, and the deer don't eat them! The new shrubby types are a lot different than the old standards. I had one at the old place that was like a multi-stemmed tree. I would go in each year and saw off a third of the stems (the oldest ones) to get new growth. Most of the bush was too big to do any hair cutting. The ones I planted here at the new house were pretty small, and have just reached blooming size this year.

So beautiful! We moved to a property that has just one small limb coming out & at first seemed to have a fungus.
