What does it mean to be intelligent? Immediately we may think of figures like Albert Einstein and those who possess a genius-level IQ. People who have committed much to memory and have brains like computers.

Yet today, this traditional understanding of intelligence has taken a major shift - whereby those who have excelled in their IQ are being overshadowed by those who have mastered the EQ. Emotional Intelligence.

Today we are joined with Shaykh Mikaeel Ahmed Smith, a teacher at Qalam Seminary in Texas, and author of the book “With the heart in mind - the moral and emotional intelligence of the Prophet ﷺ”.

Join us, as we unravel the profound concept of emotional intelligence to not only better our lives and relationships, but to better our identity as Muslims and embodiments of the Prophetic Sunnah.

RULER: R = Recognition (recognize your and others' emotions) U = Understanding (understand your and others' emotional state) L = Label (if you can't name it, you can't tame it) E = Expression (emotions have to be articulated in the right way) R = Regulation (yes you express, but you regulate it as well - space out the stimulus and response so you can choose which response to make)
  • In my opinion it goes so, practice Ahlak....you don't have to be born as a person with characteristics of patience, easy forgiving one or anything. Even if you are not raised as such from your parents, you can raise yourself on your own. When hardship comes and you can't handle anymore, instead of complaining or cursing, sustain your tongue, practice gratitude for what you have, pray, you will avoid sinning and engage in ibadah...so you come automatically to God a bit closer. Practice it until your state of mind changes after that reality changes as well. When you want to fall in rage sustain, backup until you calm down and you know what to say calmly, it's never too late to speak....it is to late when wrong words come out. Train it the same way you go in gym, this is gym for soul

I was allowed to feel that way and I feel happy and insha’Allah I’d be able to move on positively R= recognise U= understanding L= label E= express R= regulate Thank you for this beautiful content, may Allah (Swt) bless you all.

JazakAllahu khair for this. Emotional intelligence/wisdom/regulation is something that needs to be brought to the forefront. The love, mercy and understanding in Islam has been left behind and its return is essential in our daily practices. May Allah SWT guide us and protect us Ameen

When he said the power to slow down time and choose his response. It is meant that one who is focused and present in mind will have more time to think clearly to react in the best way possible may Allah keep us present and allow us to train our mind for success. And feel peace in prayer
