When planning your cruise, you want to make sure you get the most out of your experience. Though you'll likely be visiting some touristy areas, especially if you're sailing to The Bahamas and Caribbean, there are ways to ensure you don't feel ripped off.

Typically, tourist traps are a waste of time and money. They aren't exclusive to The Bahamas, either. There are plenty to be found all over the world, from the bustling streets of New York City to the crowded floating markets in Thailand.

Here are some tourist traps you should avoid on cruises, and how you can make sure that you don't get roped into any.

I would argue that something like Señor Frogs is an authentic part of the cruise experience. Don’t stay all day, don’t get a meal, but to make a stop for a drink and enjoying the silliness is all part of what cruising is all about.

Agreed on all points but I really like staying in port at Costa Maya, it's like a mini Disney resort.

Make sure you check the spellings on tshirts you interested in! Bought a shirt in Nassau, Bahamas, and when I got home realized the shirt spelling was "Naasau"....😂😂 Also noticed the star patches on the tshirts hide holes!
  • Mickey D's is actually good in countries outside us with better and more natural ingredients. I plan to go all McDonalds to see the differences 🤷🏾‍♀️
  • Anytime a tourist asks for “whatever” you know he/she will mention a place where he/she will get a kickback $ (not where he would go!)

Never sat in Margaritaville or Senior Frog. I don’t get off a ship to sit in a bar, especially a franchise or chain type. However the pool area next to Margaritaville in Grand Turk is a nice spot to kill some time for part of the day or after your out of the cruise compound trip.

`Skagway is the perfect example of a port that exists only for cruises. As best I could tell it has absolutely no other meaningful economy or purpose.
