Transit Oddities around Japan

Along with the vast amount of regular trains, Japan also has some modes of transit that aren't so common. Most of this compilation consists of monorail routes, but there's also a cable car, a guided busway, and a low-speed maglev. At the end of the video are a couple short clips of a hydrogen fuel-cell bus by Tokyo Station.

Included in this video is the Shonan Monorail, which is a suspended monorail system like the Wuppertaler Schwebebahn in Wuppertal, Germany. Just recently I learned the Shonan Monorail is a "sister suspended monorail" of the Schwebebahn, and in fact if you look closely at 43:58 you'll see a decal on the train showing this. Two months prior I had ridden on the Schwebebahn.

Also shown is the Skyrail Midorizaka Line, which was planned to shut down permanently by the end of 2023. However, as of January 2024, the shut down has been pushed back to April of this year.
