Today's guest doesn't have faith anymore, he has a knowing.

When Peter Baldwin Panagore died on the side of a mountain, his life was forever changed. Decades later, the intense spiritual journey continues, with a story that combines the thrills of a wilderness adventure with the awe-inspiring elements of a paranormal novel.

In March of 1980, college senior Peter Panagore went ice climbing on the world-famous Lower Weeping Wall, along the Ice Fields Parkway in Alberta, Canada. His climbing partner was an experienced ice climber, but Panagore was a novice. On their descent, they became trapped on the side of the mountain. As the sun set, he was overcome by exhaustion and hypothermia.

He died on the side of that mountain. And in those minutes on the other side, he experienced hell, forgiveness, and unconditional love. Heaven was beautiful.

Panagore's death experience changed his life and resulted in an intense spiritual journey that has continued for decades. It impelled him to pursue a master's degree at Yale Divinity School, focusing on systematic theology and Christian mysticism.

His educational background coupled with 30 years of meditative practice and 20 years of professional work with the dying and grieving has given him unique insight, language, and perspective on heaven, God, death, life, love, beauty, and hope.

I have told my story to audiences large and small for a decade now.... My story touches people's hearts; every time I tell it the audience is gripped and silent…. This book is about hope. It is meant to give real hope to the dying, hope to the fearful, hope to the hopeless, hope to the grieving.--from the book

Recruited to television, Peter spent fifteen years writing stories of hope and inspiration for his daily NBC-TV broadcast during the morning news across Maine and New Hampshire, reaching eighty thousand views a day as a cultural influencer and storyteller. Peter is a natural-born mystic with forty years of Centering Prayer and Kriya Yoga practice.

He now hosts Not Church: Mysticism No Doctrine No Dogma live on his YouTube Channel, where he deconstructs the Bible in Light of his near-death experiences.

  • I have seen other interviews with Peter before but this is by FAR the best one. It comes down to Alex’s brilliant, warm, empathetic and authentic style of conducting and orchestrating the conversation that allows the fullness of the experience to come across. This is the first time I saw the real Peter; he is a lovely man.

I spent 23 years as a firefighter, I am also transgender. Through both of those experiences, I developed c-PTSD. I have nearly died many times, and often feel like my life is a tv show on a screen. Through all of it, I have felt that love of “Source” three times. The first time it told me I was not meant to die by suicide as a teen. The second time I was asking forgiveness for the “sin” of being transgender. I was told it wasn’t anything I needed to “carry”, then I was washed with a sense of love and forgiveness without the need to be forgiven. The most recent was a dream within which I knew I was “dead”. I was given a chance to say goodbye to those I love. Then I asked about the medical professionals who had worked on me. Suddenly, I was back in my body in a hospital emergency room waiting area. I knew something was wrong, so I stood up to walk across to the registration desk. I collapsed as I got there, and was again out of my body. I watched them do CPR on my body, knowing I had experienced an ascending aortic aneurism. I wished each of them experience no guilt or grief for my death. Then there was an awareness that it was time to go. As the world around me turned to pure light and love, I woke up. I was already crying tears of absolute joy and love. I know wanting to feel that love envelop me again, and to feel that absolute love envelop me. Thank you for sharing this story.

Excellent interviewer doesn't interrupt at all and it gives the guest ,  Peter Panagore the space to tell his story, and it truly a captivating and descriptive NDE

I lost my father on June 7 2023. Since then I've been lost on this spiritual journey. I have found a way through my grief via these podcasts. This one is my favorite thus far. It has a sense of healing. Thank you 🌷
  • This is an exceptionally lucid and compelling description of a NDE.
  • I am just here for those of you who can only meditate for 5 minutes or less. I am here to validate you, and make sure you know that YES, the meditation you practice is plenty, however short the duration. You will naturally flow to a longer state of meditation if it is needed. Keep up the good work. Namaste.
  • @Emma-dl5ez
IT is beautiful. @ 27 I had a NDE. Now 60+. He is saying what I felt too. Love ppl, just love. Forgive others and forgive and ove yourself. Share your love. Just pure love. The love and light I felt is not something here. Love, love. Beautiful ❤️ Thank you for sharing and caring for us. Love you all❤️💯 I'm looking forward to go back also 😊
  • @athena3865
This is real. I know from where you speak; I am also an NDE, and experienced the feeling of words spoken, also. Mine was, "You will be spared." Mine occurred 34 years ago in a car crash where I should have not survived. I had no broken bones or cuts. And I don't feel like I am from here, either. I became a professional nurse after; I am now retired. Thank You for sharing your story. Love and light to you. :thanksdoc:

"We're like little tiny fingertips of the Divine, experiencing the world" So beautifully put! 💞
  • @ericquinn8578
Damn. Listening to these never gets old. Especially with someone like Peter who really has the capacity to articulate everything in a clear and meaningful way. Thank you, Peter. Thank you, Alex; as always, it’s a privilege.
  • @Shane7492
Trying to explain the paradox of who we really are and what we experience on the other side is not an easy feat, and I must say that Peter did a fantastic job trying to. One of the best NDEs I've ever heard. Absolutely wonderful.
  • I often stand back and watch the world feeling like I’m just playing a role that isn’t actually me, this makes so much sense to me now.
  • @MsTinyninja
I think this may be one of my favorite NDE stories thus far. Beautiful. Fantastical. And familiar even though I’ve never experienced an NDE. Thank you for sharing.
  • @Jaimearzola740
Oh my god, what an amazing/excellent listener the host is!!!🙏💜
  • Today, Nov. 6, 2022, I am in the middle of watching Peter explaining his experience with the Divine, so to speak. I love the way that he explained the experience with the Universe, the beauty of the universal colors that one cannot define in our limited language, and the feeling of overwhelming pure love essence and the power of forgiveness to begin the healing therein. Through my birth defect of hearing loss that I had chosen to incarnate this earthly human body, the path led me to my early childhood experience of seeing my grandmother at the age of 12 who passed on and came back to be my telepathic teacher. Since then. my spirit guides have often said that “Love is the most powerful force in God’s/Source’s many universes. Love heals all wounds of life and begin the healing within the universes therein. Also. God/Source seeks to know him/her self through life firm’s existence in the universes.” This plain simple words of earth’s language is God is love and God is light. This truly is true for every human being on Earth and for every life form in the universe!❤️❤️😇 Thank you for sharing this beautiful video.
  • @twinEAH
Wow. Just wow! This is an incredible story. Peter is an excellent storyteller! What a powerful Being and Spirit! I also love how you interview guests, Alex. You don't interrupt the guest. You give them room to speak. Thank you both! :) <3
  • @bruno-orante
I have also found that Centering Prayer has opened my spirit to the Divine Love. Watching from YouTube, videos of Thomas Keating and reading from Thomas Merton, has taken me to a level of meditation and contemplative adoration that I never had been before. Thank you for this video that strengthens all that I’m learning 🙏 Pax et Bonum
