In January 2023, the Junction Butte pack traveled through Yellowstone National Park. Notice how almost all of the wolves stop to smell the antler. Scent communication is very important to wolves. Scent marking through urination, defecation, and foot scratching can communicate territorial boundaries, mark food ownership, and create a road map for pack members.
