Gary, I think you hit the nail on the head when you talked about the value of average baseball players. The 2nd half of Cashman's career is littered with big name signings that underperform in the Bronx. The problem with the Yankee lineup has nothing to do with star power, it has to do with fundamental baseball. Players not projected to hit more than 25 HR should not be trying to pull the ball every at bat. The extra HR from pulling the ball doesn't equal the extra number of outs created by either trying to pull balls that should be hit to opposite field (weak contact), or by hitting the ball hard right into the alignment of the defense (easy DPs). We don't need expensive signings to fix this team. We need guys who can adjust their approach at the plate to fit the game situation. We need guys who want to hustle on the bases and put pressure on pitchers and the defense. And finally, the yanks need to fire everyone in the organization who think pulling the ball hard is always the best approach. Bomber ball is boring ball when the ball is not leaving the yard. Yes, some nights we score 10 runs, but other nights we get beat by 1 or two runs. We need other ways to score runs on nights when the lineup is producing nothing more than easy outs. This take pressure off our pitchers/defense and puts pressure on the other team.
  • The Yankees have so many holes that they will probably have to explore every possible option to improve the team: Making astute trades, especially to get players for second and third who can hit, and a real closer; promoting some of the top prospects to help the team, get back some of the IL players like Dominguez, Stanton, Schmidt, Effross, Berti, and Poteet; and DFA or trade away all of the underperforming veterans who a playing poorly, like: LeMahieu, Rizzo, Torres, Trevino, Grisham, JD Davis, Verdugo, Cortes, and Jahmai Jones.
  • With two men on in the 8th and one out I didn't have a problem taking out Weaver (he had already given up a HR the inning before). Holmes with two men on in the 8th was the wrong choice. Boone might have put in Cousins (20K in 15IP) to close out the 8th. After the game Boone eluded to the bullpen being so far away he couldn't see how the sinker was breaking up and down or side to side. Was the phone off the hook?
  • truth is Boone put in DJ because he's worried about everybody's feelings
  • For the last decade, the Yankees have failed to reach the World Seires mostly due to the lack of a consistent hitting lineup. A hallmark ot the World Series Champion Yankees teams of the 1970's, 1990's and early 2000's was because the Yankees had circular, clutch hitting lineups. Cashman needs to make astute trades, and target and promote the right prospects to add to Soto and Judge so that the Yankees can recreate the great lineups of the 70's, 90's, and early 2000's.

Cashman aint the gm the owner thinks he is. Dude is terrible at trading mid season. Whens the last time Yankees made a big trade and multiple big trades mid season... 09? He'll get maybe 1 bat and 1-2 pitchers and hold out for players to return. In the meantime its right in front of them :P
  • @thaitiger
We all can see what’s happening on the field. Good to get the behind the scenes perspective. Great interview and great discussion. Bring more guys!
  • Now that Mason Miller was put on the IL due to a fractured finger, perhaps Cashman can make a trade offer for Miller since Cashman has a history of trading for injured players (ex. Montas, Bader). Maybe Cashman could add more prospects and try to trade for Miller and Rooker at the same time.
  • @bobtis
Mr. Sheffield you know your shit.
  • @fje6902
I like this channel because they are not hesitant about calling out anyone who deserves it. There are too may content creators who act more like Yankees apologists than fans.
  • Great interview/show. Insightful as always. It's really cool that you got someone like him on the show to sort of show what the Yankees might be thinking, but time will tell.
  • Let’s go. Great podcast yall. Growing day by day
  • Sleep schedule may be cooked but at least i get to watch the new episode early
  • @Penny_4yt
You guys have a great informative channel as a Red Sox fan I appreciate you guys keep up the good work
  • Boone, Holmes, torres need to be gone, and trade verdugo...and add two more hitters to the lineup with a reliever too
  • I did not watch the game last night..no way was I going to torture myself with a Nestor Cortes Road game..and he crapped the bed...and if somehow we got a lead I did not think Holmes could hold it too much pressure he can't handle it,,our Blown saves leader!
