Worked for me after watching one of your other videos. I bought the drills and cleaning files and my mower runs like a dream. Thanks.

im here two years after you posted this. bought my first qualcast 35s (do-er uppa) on the weekend. did this and WOW! happy days!. never even looked at an engine before but having watched some of your other videos i can see i will be addicted to this stuff !! cheers pal. new sub! now to replace the bottom blade and sharpen the cylinder!! onwards and upwards!

Cut your fuel line and install one of Briggs small doughnut shaped fuel filters. It will stop small garbage that plugs your carb from happening hence the surging sound or not running. Change the filter each season.

Ready to mow! Excellent demonstration of the task. Thanks Mick
  • @jasperdog2000
This guys a genius. Bought the drills, took less then tens mins to correct the issue. My mowers been into three reputable dealers to try and solve this surging issue and they’ve never solved it. 👍👍👍👍

Genius fix. I got the finger drills for less than $3.00. Care is needed but the reaming and cleaning took about three minutes. I'm supposing that the procedure slightly enriches the air-fuel mix.

Thanks, Mick, that is what I am started doing but have not yet finished. I saw Taryl do it and now that I have seen you do it, I will go ahead and use the wire gauge drill bits on it until I get it resurfaced.
  • @toddcastle3926
I use these for the very same reason… works like a charm!

Great video, Sir Mick! This video can help a lot of people to understand and fix this issue. 🦅🇺🇸

Exactly the same technique as endodontics ( root canal treatment ). Dentists now throw out their nickel titanium super flexible hand files after every use.... they are tapered tho, but cut off the taper and you have a set for free ( if you know a friendly dentist!! ) You can also get really thin welding rod cleaners that are not tapered that are also used for adjusting and filing guitar nut slots

I brought a set of the drill bits when I saw u last use them and I would be lost without them . Great video Mick keep it up

Thanks Mick good tip for Fix. Mine also had a break in the sheath on the push pull cable to the safety handle you hold in at the grip. Bit of slack in the cable so the mower would not start sometimes or die suddenly as if you let go the safety handle.

Nice easy fix, can’t beat it when it’s so straight forward
  • @patrickford5358
Thank you Mick, for the quick response and the sound advice. I've ordered the thumb drill bits and look forward to actually fixing this issue, without reaching too deep into the pockets!!! I'll update in a few days when the bits arrive!
  • I must say thanks for your great channel. I had the same issue on my Hayter 3. After watching what you did I took off the bowl jet, cleaned it and it's running like a dream.
  • Very good advice there mick . I might invest in those drill bits also
  • @thunderusa
WOW! That hole is small inside there, I didn't think there was a hole at first. I finally found the right bit that went threw, then one size up. You're right, mine was an aftermarket carb bolt. It took some time to go threw. Thanks Mick!!!
  • Great video Mick!I have that type of engine on a rotorvator, with the same problem.I stripped the carb right down and cleaned everything but didn't realise how important that bowl jet was,so I'll go back and give it a go. Only other thing I could think of was adjustment of the governor. Many thanks.👍
