On January 1st, 2014, I uploaded the first "Things You Might Not Know" video. Once the initial rush of videos settled down, I aimed for one video a week, and while there have sometimes been guest videos and occasional blatant filler: to my own satisfaction, I never missed a week. But now, it's time to stop.

I never got to space. I never got to the ocean depths. And I never got to fly off into the sunset, harnessed underneath a helicopter. I couldn't find an excuse for that one.

Update, January 19th: I've updated the title and thumbnail because it turns out a lot of people don't even get to the second sentence of the video before writing me off forever!
  • Being a subject of a Tom Scott video will forever be one of my proudest achievements. Incredible 10 years of dedication to the craft of obscure oddities!
  • @TEDEd
We all learned so much from you, Tom. Thank you for ten incredible years!
  • @Axecon1
It feels weird to go this long without a new Tom Scott video
  • I grinned like an idiot when your feet lifted off the ground. Congratulations man.
  • Been 4 months and I can honestly say I truly miss having Monday videos to look forward during my lunch break.
  • An amazing ten years. I love what you have given to YouTube and wish you every single success for the next chapter! xxxx
  • @veritasium
Congratulations Tom! This rest is well deserved.

In 1972 I started work as an engineering apprentice and over the next 18 years I worked my way up to be in charge of a nationally known brand, but the higher I climbed the ladder it was clear that the increased workload was taking its toll. In 1990, to much amazement of those around me, I decided to return to the role of hands-on technical electro-mechanical engineering and for the next 31 years my job satisfaction and happiness increased. Learning from the past I was happy to limit my role to what made me happy. Three years ago I finally retired and the decision to acknowledge when the 'time is right' has been one of my better decisions in life. Thank you for your entertainment, it is now YOUR TIME TOM, TO ENJOY LIFE 😊.
  • Well, you've cemented your place in Youtube history forever. Thanks, Tom, for everything.
  • @AbroadinJapan
Now THAT is an exit! Enjoy your very well earned break mate and thank you for setting the bar high for what YouTube content can be for so long now.
  • The other day I just suddenly realized how much I've been missing the weekly monday videos. Thanks for all the years of great videos and education :)
  • @SirOfEmpire
This man is a Legend. He dedicated ten years of his life to show and teach us things all around the globe, and that every week. I´m so thankful for his videos and the awesome content. Stay awesome Tom.

Thanks for watching, everyone; it's been a privilege. I'll still be publishing at the links in the description; do check them out.
  • The best to ever do it. Congrats on an incredible decade Tom.
  • Sir, I doubt you will ever find this comment, but i have to at least try to say this. Never doubt that you have made a difference in the world. Over the past decade, your videos have been a regular source of wonder and comfort for more people than you could possibly imagine. Thankyou , for everything youve done. It matters.

You know it's been three months and I finally realized why 2024 isn't the same. I don't get a weekly email from Tom, I don't get a new piece of nerdy media from him. L I didn't think I'd truly miss it but you know what? I really do. I hope you are well Tom and thanks for making the impact you did.
