How to Yelp on Mouth Call? Calling turkeys with a mouth call can be challenging for turkey hunters getting started but learning to master the diaphragm call for turkey hunting can be very rewarding for a turkey hunter of any level. When getting started with a mouth call a huge first step is just knowing the mechanics of a mouth call and how it’s made. Secondly knowing where and how to place a mouth call for success is fundamental for calling turkeys with a mouthcall. After this is overcome, its time to start making some turkey calling sounds. Follow this step by step guide to be calling turkeys this spring with a mouth call.

In this video Edward breaks down the yelp of a hen turkey. A yelp is the primary call that a turkey uses and for this should be the primary call a turkey hunter learning to call turkeys should learn to master. Yelping is a two-note call that hens, jakes and gobblers all use to communicate with other turkey. Yelping can be done with any call, slates, boxes push-pin calls and of course a mouth call. Mouth yelping for turkeys is very rewarding when gobblers respond and come into the call. After learning to comfortably place the call and keep it positioned in your mouth, the next step is to learn to make noise and begin trying to yelp.

    Thanks for the reply , I have been turkey hunting for 45 years. Mostly use a wing bone and slate. I actually build wing bones. I have tried for years to use a mouth call. Just never really got the hang of it. I can do better with just calling with me natural voice. All my mouth calls have tabs. So tab down and I’ll keep at it.

    Haha! Got it! Well, close 😂. But I can tell I'm gonna have it. Thanks, awesome videos. My wife and I got our call's delivered today and are sitting here watching your videos and trying our best 😅. We need to find some smaller ones, the ones we got are way too big for her, we trimmed the entire tape off and the frame is still tooth to tooth for her. Any suggestions?

    Is it possible to be TOO raspy? I have the cut side up like you said in your previous video but it sounds so much raspier than yours

    If other video I’ve ever watched about mouth calls says to put the longest reed up or on top. You are saying the opposite ?

    Why is my yelp so high pitched? I’ve moved the call all around my mouth, have tried to use different parts of my tongue and even different pressures of breath. Still, super high pitched with little to no rasp
