This bag was designed to be functional for the working women. It's crazy how now it's only to show how rich you are. Somewhere along the process the bag has failed it's true purpose.

I once worked in a store where these bags were sold. I saw a lady being sold one and thought to myself “this is almost sinful”, but the more you sell the more money you make. It’s a beautiful bag but definitely wasn’t worth 40,000

Short answer: the reason they’re so expensive is because Hermes is brilliant at creating fake exclusivity. They’re value would plummet immediately if someone just stole a bunch of them and gave them away on the street. Anybody in the mood for a heist?

I just love how Jane Birkin used hers. She wasn’t afraid to use it and she said it on many occasions that bags should be used and loved, otherwise why buy them?

The fact that you have to be "invited" to buy a bag and you don't even have a choice as to what kind it is, despite putting down a mortgage for it, for some reason, annoyed me to the highest degree.
