Concerning he went from being a highly-confident "ultimate mercenary", or whatever he called himself, to being effortlessly wrecked in three hits and being called pathetic enough to the point of not being worth finishing off, it was probably a pretty big turning point for him in his mind. Also his encounter with Shadow explains why throughout the game he lets people live because they're too "pathetic to finish off." He loves leaving people with the feeling Shadow left him with.

To be entirely honest, i kinda like Infinite's character. His untouchable, high-and-mighty deal is as much of an illusion as the powers the Phantom Ruby grants him are. Underneath it all, he's a damaged madman with an inferiority complex the size of the Space Colony ARK...

I don't know weather it's ironic or symbolic that Infinite viewed himself as weak, then he gained the power of creating illusions to become more powerful. Probably using the ruby to make an illusion on how he wanted to view himself.

So Shadow basically causes sonic forces by being so strong he literally made infinite piss his pants. Reason number 4,578 why Shadow is a badass.
