34-year old Sgrolmamtsho married Don'grub at the age of 21 (in 1993) without experience of housework, fieldwork, and fetching wood. Filmed by her husband's younger brother, 'phagspadon'grub, in Amdo, the film concentrates on the daily life of Tibetan village women--fetching water, feeding livestock (swine, a cow, a mule), milking, cleaning the stables, cooking, household religious activity, weeding fields, transporting manure to fields, fetching wood for fuel--along with commentary by Sgrolmamtsho about her life and family. (Rare insight into Tibetan village women's lives. Tibetan soundtrack; English subtitles. 52 minutes. Color.)

  • I cannot believe the amount of work this woman does before her breakfast! I want to give her a hug and thank her for her amazing strength. I am truly ashamed of my manicured life, I protest and whinge for nothing if I compare myself with her. I wonder why her husband is not helping with some chores, but that is probably down to culture. I salute you Sgrolmamtsho. 🙏❤
  • I am a Tibetan , I too have a generous and beautiful mother , this video brings my childhood and the life style in my town , when I was young as a child,I used to think that my mom is one energetic women who would never get tired ,the time moves so fast just like a flowing river.,my mom gets older and older that is a unstoppable and merciless reality and I am own my way of becoming a big boy , though we have all the facilities around us nowadays and compare to the past years ,the life quality is getting hype-better .but I have never got such Satisfactory and happiness that I spent my whole childhood with my beautiful mom. In Our culture we consider mother is a earthly Goddess who spreads compassion and sacrifices her whole life to build up her sons in a right direction to live a meaningful life.she never think something will returns from her son but live the life meaningful and have a kind-heart is the best gratitude to her. Many ignorant people don’t realise it until the last breath of her life. Just hope you all will cherish when your mom is with you. Mom, I’m praying for your longevity and health. Study abroad maybe is not good idea , but I realise the importance of family by the way. Mom I love you so much I’m coming home 🏡.

Seeing this makes me a little sad. It reminded me of our life as children in the late 50s and early 60s. My mother worked so hard to feed and clothe us. I especially remember her working in the cotton and tobacco fields, and then coming home to make a full meal each night . I remember her cooking on a wood stove when the outside temp was a 100 degrees F. Brutal. And then she died at 48, just when her last child was grown up. I salute all of the hardworking women and mothers of the world.

Sitting on my cosy couch in my beautiful home, sipping on hot tea and eating a lovely ham salad sandwich I felt extremely grateful for the privilege of being a westerner in the UK where everything is done almost with a push of a button, while this lady works from dawn to dusk. It's her way of life and she seems happy enough but, boy! I'd never want to experience her life hands-on. Can you imagine her in a 5 star hotel in London or any city having a beautiful soak in a rolled topped bath a pamper day and food bought to her on a tray? I wish I could do that for her. Blessings to you and your family. 🙏🏻🇬🇧❤️
