Nothing captures what’s wrong with today’s “journalism” like the sad saga of what happened last week at The Washington Post.

“Just because you're offended, doesn't mean you're right.” ― Ricky Gervais

I love how Felicia got "offended" by the joke, then proceeded to flood Twitter with insults, attacks, ad hominems, etc.
  • This is a peculiar thing I came across when I was a teacher. Parents who didn't like how you were dealing with their child were not interested in sitting down, talking, and working things out. They were on search and destroy mode, screaming in your face, complaining to your superiors daily and insisting you be fired, getting online with other parents of your students to start bad feelings with them, all over the most miniscule misunderstanding. This is how younger adults are today. God help us.
  • Of all the good late night shows, Bill's is not only very entertaining but you can feel that he wants all of his viewers, left and right to reflect and reconsider. That makes his show special.

Imagine claiming to be offended by something, while simultaneously sharing that something with everyone possible.
  • Well said. The worst thing about these sort of people is how horrendously toxic they are. While they're crying 'offence', they are in reality control freaks. They are entirely intolerant and humorless.

"Can you imagine a world that allows jokes that you don't like?" Brilliant.
  • Bill Maher’s show needs to be mandatory viewing by all those under the age of 30.

"Democracy dies in dumbness." Sadly witnessed every day.
  • I never, in a million years, thought I would get to like what he says. I am now a fan! Good job. Keep it up.

"A thousand burning bras." . . . "Till the bell rang and all went to seventh period." 😆 One of your best monologues, Bill! (from a fellow "boomer")

It’s even sadder because when the Post wanted to fire Felicia for the Kobe tweet, Weigel was among the ones who defended her.

It's truly a strange thing to live during a time that I find myself wholeheartedly agreeing with Bill Maher.
  • One of the main causes of allergies is growing up in an environment that is too sterile. We are creating a society of people with emotional allergies. It's so easy to live in a bubble of comfort and self-reinforcement that people are losing the ability to come into contact with opposing views (that might make them uncomfortable) without melting down.
  • There is a lot of stuff Bill says that i either disagree with or feel maybe a little off. But in this as a millennial myself, i have to admit that he is spot on. Too many people are actively going around looking to be offended by something. Then respond by being 10x more toxic than whatever it was that caused the offense.
  • It’s hilarious how appropriate the phrase “bye Felicia” applies in this situation 😂
  • @OneMeanArtist
When you give power to the easily offended, you are only encouraging them to get outraged again by increasingly smaller offenses.
