Caterham 420R on Track at a Very Wet Curborough Sprint Course

First track day of 2023 and also my first track day in my newly acquired "Peppermint" Caterham 420R. The car is completely stock with Avon ZZS tyres. The venue was Curborough Sprint Course running a 2/3 lap session.

Overall the car performed great! I did not push it hard due to the conditions so these laps were more low speed and trying to catch slides of which I probably had around a 50% success rate. But the typical race car driver's excuse... my tyres never got heat in them. This is the problem when out for such a low number of laps. The weather and the half-hood were a faff but the car is immensely enjoyable. I was surprised that the entire day I used only about £30 of petrol including the 120-mile round commute to the track. Easily the best proper driver's track car I’ve had. I am looking forward to more days and hopefully some dry ones in the car. The next job is a service at Oakmere to have it ready for more track days this Summer.

All In-car footage was filmed on the GoPro Hero 8. Still getting used to the camera and sorry for the bad audio! Too much wind noise to hear the car properly but it sounded ace. I'll be adding a lot more track footage to my channel so make sure to subscribe.

  • Great video! That was more an exercise in oversteer control than sprinting! Looked great fun despite the weather. Im looking forward to dusting off my 420R if the weather ever improves.
  • I like how Tom has put his name on the back to make it easier to find in carparks 😁
  • @no-brakes
One of the brdc license tests was skid. Used to be a Caterham and was such a joy to race it in the wet. Thanks for bringing back such memories😊
  • This looks like great fun. I would like to try this in my Alpina Roadster. Do you have to belong to any clubs to have a go?
