The first race of the 2021 Caterham Academy kicks off with a sprint race at Curborough, and Paul was on hand to see if he could compete in this exciting motorsport championship.

To get into the vibe, Paul even drove the ‘Lovecars Caterham’ to the event, some 190 miles, after a quick stop to Piers Dowell the helmet sprayers, to pick up his new lid.

The 2021 Caterham Academy season hosts 50 cars and is held across 7 different tracks:
17 April - Curborough Sprint
22 May - Mallory Park
12/13 June - Knockhill
3 July - Silverstone GP
7 August - Brands Hatch Indy
5 September - Croft
9/10 October - Snetterton 300

The Academy car record is 65.34 set by Blair McConachie in 2019. Will Paul get close, or will he flop in his motorsport debut!

Well done mate. A brilliant way to start. Looking forward to seeing more 👍

Great bit of caterham coverage! But I have to fact check you, the lap record is actually 65.00 and is held by me in 2019 not Blair!! Outraged!! 😆

I feel your 2nd to 5th pain Paul, I did exactly the same in 2019 and threw away the win (and possible lap record). I've never made that mistake since in two seasons of racing! Great video and looking forward to following the rest of your season.

Really strong effort! Look forward to seeing your progress through the series. What an awesome track line up 👌🏻

Great video and good luck! I think it would have been enjoyable to watch video of a complete lap as well with no commentary or music. Food for thought for future episodes.

Looks like fun Paul, very jealous indeed. You’ve killed your chance of getting sponsored by Magners now though! 😂

Appealingly low key. Good job driving to the track.
  • I used to drive to events at Curborough. I live in Lichfield so I used to go past it to actually get some heat into the gearbox etc. Great place to compete and spectate.

Curborough is great. Before all this virus malarkey I used to take my grandkids up on the bank to watch whilst having an ice cream 👍🏽
