Launch of NASA's James Webb Space Telescope

An Ariane 5 rocket is launching NASA's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). JWST is the largest and most advanced space telescope ever built and will study every phase of cosmic history. Liftoff is scheduled for 7:20 a.m. Eastern (12:20 UTC) from the Guiana Space Centre in French Guiana.

I work for the company that built all of the mirror segments, all of the deployment motors and all of the mirror position/focus mechanisms. We wont breathe freely until it is deployed and focused. "343 unfolds to go" and we will be on the edge of our seats for every one!

I set my alarm and got up early to watch the launch. It reminded me of being a kid again on Christmas morning so excited to go downstairs to open presents. Congratulations and gratitude to all those who made the JWST happen.

I was 25 when this journey started, now I am 50 and JW got launched.. crazy if you think about it. Can't wait what JWST will bring us!

Golly, this is one of the cleanest launches I've ever seen. The telescope I've been reading about since I was a young child has finally launched. I cannot wait for the discoveries it will make!

I've been excited to see this day since I was 6 years old learning about it in 1996 now i'm 32 got to witness the launch. i'll be elated all over again 6 months when JWST's job can start.
