Here is a behind-the-scenes video documenting the making up of a brand new 70mm print of Nolan's new large-format biography, Oppenheimer.

The print was struck photochemically and audio is played via DTS timecode. The total feature was 5 reels (the reels were designed and made by Brad Miller at Film-Tech). Reel 1 also included a 3-minute section of Vertigo to be used when testing to make sure the DTS audio is in sync.

Filmed on location: Ritz Cinemas, Randwick
Projectionist: John Wilson
Co-Projectionist: Benjamin Olsen
Special Thanks: Brad Miller

Thanks for sharing this great experience with us film heads!! Kid in a candy store, love it. Saw 70mm print last week at the Orpheum, great presentation. Keep it up Clark mate!
  • This is awesome. I've never seen a film in IMAX before but this makes me even more keen to see this one in that format. I love how tangible this is, it's "just" a beautiful evolution of old technology. Greetings from Hungary :)
  • I saw this on 70mm in Denver this last summer it was awesome. the 70mm print was perfect.

Nice video, looks like its 5 perf, 70mm IMAX. I wonder what a 15x70 IMAX reel will look like.
  • @DGalious
Wow! No wonder why tickets for film projection are sold out a month ahead in London.
  • @ClarkTeddles I Wonder If The 3 Minute Vertigo DTS Test Film Look Like. Beacause I Did Not Find This Video On Youtube. I Hope One Day Or An Another Have Upload This.🙂 Update:Is A Nood To The 1958 Film Of The Same Name.
  • There was the days the reels were projected separately every 22mins once the film has finished its run they have to do all this in reverse
  • @hemantkulkarni0212
I believe this is a regular 70 mm reel and not an IMAX one. The frame is about four perfs each. Correct if wrong.
  • Fabulous! I loved the gag near the start where the distributor letter recommends a certain YouTube channel. Is 'Brad Miller' the Brad Miller from the 8mm Forum? John.
  • @debug8377
just curious, how'd you guys get that much scrap IMAX film?
  • Terrific Video. A few questions: 1:08 What is the Vertigo DTS Test? Is that an excerpt of the Hitchcock film? If so, which scene? 3:00 Aren’t white gloves recommended for Splicing film? 3:36 What was contained on the 2nd disc and the flash drive? Also, once the film has completed its run, do you splice back the heads and tails of each reel?
  • @didi-wi8gy
Is it running vertically? I thought all IMAX films roll in horizontal position
  • @bagnome
Does the print have cue marks for theaters that want to do change overs?
