Dayton Hamvention 2024: MFJ Closure Update, Remembering Bob Heil, & Spotlight on 405 Laserworks!

Published 2024-05-12
We are getting ready for the big trip to Xenia, Ohio to attend the one and only Dayton Hamvention - home of the ARRL National Conference. This year we have to say goodbye to some old friends and say hello to a brand-new opportunity to meet some more amazing hams and see the latest and greatest gear.
This year we lost one of the brightest stars of ham radio and sound engineering, Bob Heil, who passed away in February. We dedicate this episode to him and his legacy. We also mark 2024 as the first Hamvention without MFJ as a prime vendor, as they recently announced they are going out of business.
In this episode I also present my interview with Bryan Mackey of 405 Laserworks, who sells the best laser-etched LED signs around. Be sure to check out his booth in the Maxim building near the side entrance.

sad year we lost Bob Heil and are loosing one of the most productive ham radio product producer as MFJ. This will also affect the magazine industry because of the loss of the magazine advertising from mfj.

Having read Martin's letter, I believe what he said was NOT that MFJ was closing down rather than MFJ manufacturing was closing. As far as I read it, MFJ can continue on as a retail organisation. At least for the time being.

Unfortunately due to health issues in the Smallwood family, R&L electronics will not be at Hamvention this year.
