My first step in the process, with my 479, was to go completely around the machine with a grease gun; every zerk. Especially the zerks on the reel and the wobble, but the pullies on the far side and the telescoping drive shaft also needed a squirt. Nice machine, well cared for.
  • Man, that looks like one very well looked after Haybine, love these machines better than Disc machines, Haybine maybe slower but does a far better job in heavy crops.
  • Great video and nice machine. Only thing missing was adjusting the baffle for the windrow width.
  • Nice machine and video ! Just one question ? Most farmers never took the shims / spacers out between the hay bine rolls...... up to one quarter inch of spacers between the rolls. The were first shipped with the spacers in.... later shipped with the spacers bolted beside the roll housing. They were meant for cutting oats so the heads wouldnt be knocked off. Many farmers never knew this.....had the haybine cutting hay for years and never understood why the hay would not dry . Like cutting hay with a sickle mower all over again ! The last sale I went to there were 5 haybines there. All of them still had the spacers between the rolls ! Remove them and put full tension on the rolls......now the hay will dry ! No need for the skid shoes. Trap the gophers and pick up the rocks ! I see the block......... no need for it if you have the hitch greased. Slides with ease !

Love the haybine and your videos. Learning for when I can get one.

I want to find a resilient old-fashioned farm where I can work and die. From old age, not by work I'd prefer. I am a German dairy man, ready to move. Who wants that?
  • You have a clean mean machine.....take care of it. You dont need a block to move the machine over. Grease the grease fitting up under the tongue area. It slides with ease when greased. When your machine plugs by the wabble box its probably because of the skid shoe. You dont need them installed ......I removed mine from day one. Cuts great !

Need more detail, brother. How does the yoke release in order to connect? Which hose goes where?

What's your method for inspecting the wobble box? How much play is ok (between moving drive pulley by hand and the output arm)? I'm new to haying and read somewhere there should be zero play. The 495 haybine I just purchased has a very small amount of play. I''m curious if I can still get a little more out of it before replacing or should I try rebuilding with some new bearings before it destroys itself. Thanks, great video btw.
  • OH my.......way too much header weight !!!! Should be able to lift the header off the ground with one hand ! Adjust the springs above the tires !

    What model Ford is that?
