Insulate the geyser, invest in a pressure cooker, use wonder bags to cook various foods in place of a slow cooker and to keep food warm. Use hot water bottles over a heater. The hot water bottle heats you whereas a heater has to heat the room. Change all globes to lower wattage energy savers, dont leave all the lights on. Buy energy efficient fridges and freezers. Make sure fridges and freezers are sealing well. Make sure the roof is insulated which helps in winter and summer. Use draft sealers if windows and doors contain gaps.Only heat the amount of water you need in a kettle, this saves electricity too. The more you use the geyser throughout the day the more electricity it will pull to heat the water. Switch of appliances instead of leaving on standby. Cook food in bulk and freeze in batches. For example boil a double/triple quantity of legumes in the pressure cooker. Change the outside lights to solar if possible. All the little things add up

My dad says that switched geysers on and off uses more power because it is always heating up from cold.

Owning a house = Metro bills are high, rates and taxes are ridiculously high, levies high, then still the bond is high..b4 you even think of food or petrol .. you broke 😢life is tough

She’s not alone, I’ve been feeling same over the recent months, R500 electricity purchase doesn’t last even 10 days, and I only have a fridge, WiFi and gyser, I’m investigating a device that can track what seem to be consuming my power like this. I mean my geyser is timed, 4 to 6am and 4 to 6pm only. I have a gas stove and it makes no difference to the consumption.
  • @phatheka
Consider geyser timer, changing globes and shower heads into electricity saving ones. This may contribute towards electricity savings.

Gas stove, gas geyser to start with. 😢 but we also paying alot every month.
  • Electricity is a scam, i left Jozi in 2021 to Capetown in January, and my house was empty, in March i got a bill of 18k for electricity only for 3months. i swear i died and woke up that day. my house was empty and dark all the time in 3months yet i needed to pay 18k.
  • Get an electrician to come and check the wiring or switch off everything and check if the the consumtion light stays on
  • We used to spend 6k on electricity a month, and we switched to gas geyser, and we now spending 1k a month and fill 2 19kg of gas a month, so we save about 2k now
