1:14 The hooks are actually used to grab the sandworm's scales, not its mouth. By pulling up a scale the rider exposes the vulnerable tissue underneath, making the worm turn itself to keep the exposed tissue free of the sand. By pulling up scales located in different areas, you can choose which way it leans and thus steer the worm.
  • More details: 1. Feyd said the same line in the arena and when he got killed by paul 2. The necklace Baron gave to Rabban represents the two moons of Arrakis

I think its not continuity error, the two war is different. The first one is the fremen vs harkonnen soldier. the second one uses the new flag with the black background is the holy war yet to come.
  • @Deadpool-616.
Watching it in IMAX was the best experience of my life after interstellar

Also, the first movie begins with Chani's narration, and this one with Princess Irulan's, foreshadowing their significance in the following movies (for Chani - Dune Part 2, for Irulan - Dune Messiah).

The flags being mismatched is not a continuity error. The Atredies flag with black background will probably be the banner for the Jihad or holy war that might be covered in the next film.
  • Probably the best experience I have had in a cinema in my entire life, wonderful in special effects, direction, music, production design, sound design, a very good lore, script, one of the best presentations of a villain in recent times years, all the characters have very good performances, great writing for the Protagonist, and Greig Fraser achieves the best cinematography I have ever seen in my life Great video Mr. Lad, I hope that in the future you make more videos of other Science Fiction movies with great audiovisual quality such as Blade Runner, Star Wars or Avatar, I think it would be very interesting

1:50 I read somewhere that in this scene Cinematographer Greig Fraser used Infrared cameras to film it. What a marvelous work , eh?

The flag isnt a continuity error, it's part of how Paul's vision works. In the same vision we see Jamis along with Paul and Chani in the ship, meaning Jamis survived and became Paul's follower in that vision. This means Paul see's different timelines and futures simultaneously (like he's stated multiple times already). So in that future the followers of Paul used a green flag, but in the timeline he chose, the followers used a white/brown flag with green croppings and the atreides symbol on top.

I think the idea is that pauls ability allows him to see multiple futures based on the choices he makes. The first scene with the flag is just a possible future in his visions and not a continuity error.
  • Another amazing detail on Giedi Prime is that even during the day scenes interiors are lit in colour There is one shot where a character walks from the lit interior to the „Sunlit“ outside and the colour litterally drains from the image

Paul isn't able to see the future, the spice allows him to see what will possibly happen because the capabilities of his mind are incredibly increased, so I wouldn't consider any difference a continuity error, I would say it was a slight miscalculation Paul did.

Another not-so hidden detail is, how the soundtrack is god damn spectacular. That scene when Paul arrives to the south was burnt into my mind just because of the soundtrack alone.
  • The Maker hooks grab the seperate plates/scales of the worm not the mouth, as you see he pulls up the plate and the worm rotates so the exposed part is away from the irritating sand so the rider can get on top and use the hooks to direct them. Small nitpick but I love this part of the book and now the film. I loved the Fedaykin burning the Sardaukar/Harkonnen at the end, not bothered about their water just brutal revenge. Also in the book Chani's blue headband means shes a mother aswell. 3rd edit, Good catch with Pauls skin colour change after drinking the w.o.l.👌🏾 Long live the fighters ⚔✊🏽⚔
  • The black cape idea is exactly like Return of the Jedi. In ROTS, Luke wore black dress, which made everyone believe that he is going down a dark path. But at the end it was revealed that he is still good inside. With a white piece of clothing underneath the black dress. Same for Paul. He is transitioning to a cruel leader. The subtle change starts from now. The black clothing and I hope he will wear more black by the end of the 3rd movie.

    1) the hooks are not reaching the mouth, but the plates of a worm and expose flesh below the plate which makes a worm turn this side away from the sand 2) I think reverend mothers from Arrakis are not part of Bene Gesserit, so it would not be divided
  • Also something I noticed on second watch: Stilgar pretends to be totally falling for the messiah stuff but he’s actually just as manipulative as Jessica. He basically forces Jessica to become a reverand mother to conform to the prophecy, threatening to kill her if she doesn’t. He confronts Paul when Paul denies his messianic status. He convinces other Fremen that even Paul denying he’s the Maddhi is proof that he is. He tries to find meaning in the the Mud’Hib name which Paul chose because of how harmless it is. And this is the best one: he tells everyone that Paul rode the biggest worm ever seen as was foretold, … but he also tells Paul that HE tuned the thumper himself. And exclaims “not THAT big” when the worm shows up. So he probably overtuned the thumper because he wanted to attract an unusually large worm so Paul would fit the prophecy, and just overshot it a bit and got an unsafely large one. I don’t know if Stilgar truly believed in the prophecy, but I definitely think he manipulated the situation to force the prophecy into coming true because he believed it would be best for his people.
  • @MB832
I thought it was obvious that she was about to ride a sandworm right before she died
  • You can see when Paul arrives at the throne room that he and Feyd share a glance at each other. Paul knew he has to kill him so I think it made him reassured that the plan is going well.
