How can a small clip blow up Twitter?
Well after Nigella Lawson mispronounced microwave on her latest TV series, Twitter was the first to inform the chef about her choice of pronunciation

Mispronouncing words on purpose for comic effect is one of life's simple pleasures. It is best done if it is just a few words, repeated over years while your children are young. Then it can become how your family says the word. A beautiful family joke.

i will never say Microwave correctly ever again...

I do hope most people can see she did this intentionally. A microwave has become a humble kitchen utensil and is frequently looked down on by professional chefs. Nigella was simply doing the age-old thing of mis-stressing word syllables to make something sound 'posh' or 'exotic'.

The pause on the auto captions as it tries to process what she said

If I’m having a bad day watching Nigella Lawson mispronounce microwave is guaranteed to get me smiling again
  • The fact that her pronunciation of "Microwave" sounds convincing and satisfying to our ears.

the fact that youtube’s auto-generated subtitles picked up on it is a miracle

I can't believe we've been saying "microwavé" wrong all this time! Thanks Nigella for her advice!

Adore Nigella. Her sense of humour has always been tongue in cheek :'D

Even though I clicked on a video that has "mispronunciation of the word microwave" in the title, I was not ready for THAT
  • She can say "Me-crow-wa-vè" as long as she wants and I'm here for all of it.

"The Bouquet residence, the lady of the house speaking."

When the joke goes over your head and you didn't realise she did it on purpose to take the piss..
  • @Koo-pw7yo
She doesn’t have a microwave. She has a microwavé.

To my understanding, this mispronunciation started as a joke in her family until it turned into something said without comic intent. In fairness, that's how a lot of memes start.
  • Oh come on, she's obviously doing it on purpose as a joke. How on earth is anyone taking this seriously?
  • @dildonius
There's no way she wasn't just intentionally pronouncing it that way just to be goofy. I do the same thing all the tee-may.
