WHAT MAKES FENWAY PARK SPECIAL? // THE OVER 100 YEAR HISTORY OF FENWAY PARK & RED SOX DOCUMENTARY

Publicado 2023-03-26
In this All Sports History video we'll look back at how Fenway Park was built and how has become one of the most recognizable sports venues in the world.

Here's what this "Fenway Park History" video covers:

For over 100 years, Fenway Park has been one of baseball’s most iconic grounds. With its unique dimensions, and jewel box design built right into the city, it has become one of the landmark cathedrals for the sport. In today’s video we’ll take a look back at what makes this park so special and all of the history and features that have made it become so legendary. Everything from the unique Fenway Park Green Monster to Pesky’s Pole, and even outliving the attempt to tear down and replace the iconic stadium.

Fenway Park is a historic baseball stadium located in Boston, Massachusetts. It opened its doors on April 20, 1912, and is one of the oldest and most iconic ballparks in Major League Baseball. The park was built on a tight budget, with a capacity of only 35,000 seats, but it has since been expanded and undergone renovations several times. Fenway Park has been the home of the Boston Red Sox since it first opened, and it has witnessed some of the most memorable moments in baseball history, including Babe Ruth's early career, Ted Williams' 521 home runs (of which a special Fenway Park red seat was added to mark the spot of his longest), and Carlton Fisk's dramatic home run in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series. We'll also talk about the how a world series game was called off due lack of daylight in the early year's of the stadium, and the first ever Fenway Park night game in the park's history. The stadium has also hosted numerous other events, including football games, soccer matches, and the Fenway Park Winter classic. Today, the stadium is a beloved landmark of Boston and a must-see destination for sports fans around the world.

So what did you think of Fenway Park almost being torn down in the early 2000’s? And do you think there'll ever be a time when they replace Fenway? Let me know in the comments below!

  • Hey Sports Historians! What do you think about Fenway Park almost being replaced in the early 2000's, and do you think there'll ever be a time Fenway gets replaced? Let me know in the comments below!

Fenway Park and Wrigley Field will NEVER, EVER see the wrecking ball. They're just too iconic to replace.

I’ve never been to Fenway but it looks really cool on TV. Such a unique design with the green monster.

I'm really looking forward to going to Fenway Park in September when I'll watch the Red Sox go up against the Rays. It'll be my first time that I've been to Boston, and I already know that Fenway will be the highlight of the trip. The place just exudes incredible history even from afar.
  • As a Red Sox fan Fenway is a gem of historical and architectural significance to sports culture in the city of Boston. From a Red Sox fan from Saskatchewan, Canada for 42 seasons.!

Fenway is beautiful. Seeing that green grass and the Green Monster for the first time, as a kid, was mesmerizing! The history you feel then and now, every time you enter the stadium, is awe inspiring and fascinating! The problem is, for regular attendees, that comfort isn’t good. The seats are small and many views are obstructed. Myself, brothers, and friends are all big guys and are literally squished against each other with no wiggle room whatsoever and no place for drinks, food, or anything else. I’ve been to several other arenas and stadiums and really enjoy the comforts of modern venues so much more. When news first hit about a possible new stadium, I was excited! I wanted a new Fenway with the exact same field features and dimensions but all the wonderful comforts new venues bring to the experience. I still feel the same way to this day however I do understand it will probably never happen and I definitely understand why with all the allure, beauty, & history Fenway has and the visitors it still attracts.

Took a tour of Fenway as part of my 50th Birthday last year. Standing on top of the Green Monster was worth the trip.

New York sports fan here... During the 1975 World Series, I fell in love with Fenway Park and its uniqueness. At first I thought that during the new ballpark craze, it was going to be replaced, but the Red Sox ownership did the best thing that was fortunately repeated in Chicago, in not tearing down the original park, but restoring it in such a way that most people wouldn't know. Kudos to the mastermind of renovations of Fenway Park and Wrigley Field, for keeping these true jewels of baseball architecture alive and well. Too bad they couldn't save the original Yankee Stadium and Tiger Stadium in the same way.

A recent trip to the US from the UK and visiting Fenway has me fascinated in the history of baseball and the Red Sox, thanks for the video. They should leave the stadium alone, it's truly iconic.

I went to a AA game in Hartford this summer, in a modern park, and it was GREAT. It’s really more of a hangout with baseball going on at the same time

Wed, April 17, 2024. I finally made it to Fenway to see the Red Sox play Cleveland. I got a lot of funny looks wearing my Astros cap, BUT the Red Sox fans were great. Connor Wong is from Houston, he hit a home run and I wore my Ted Williams #9 jersey. Red Sox beat the Indians 2 - 0. Looking forward to returning to Boston soon.
