Resident Kathleen Daurio dug through board records and said she found nearly $40,000 used for items and meals that she said didn't benefit homeowners.

"I mean, they bought laundry detergent and almonds and vodka and baby wipes and just about every time they bought air fresheners," said Daurio.

    HOA's should be outlawed nationwide.

Looks like embezzlement. Someone needs to go to prison.
  • When I purchased my home in Mesa I put N/A in the line for joining the HOA, initialed it and had the builder initial too. This was before the development was completed and the HOA was set up so I was exempt from the HOA rule. They threatened to take me to court but after the HOA lawyer looked at my paperwork he told them they would lose and I wasn't subject to their rules. It really chapped their hide.

Never - EVER - buy a property in a community with an HOA. I cannot stress that enough!

HOA's suck. I will never buy a house where an HOA exists!

Strange to me that HOA’s are still considered of legal entity considering the lengthy history of poor repute. This type legal entity needs to be abolished. Have you ever heard a happy HOA story? I haven’t.

When people tell me they live in a beautiful HOA community, I just laugh and say "how does it feel to pay them fees to tell you how to live"

That crook should be charged with fraud and theft and locked up.

My first question to the realtor when looking at a house is “Is there an HOA?”

They need to get the state bureau of investigations involved. These actions are not merely civil violations; they're criminal embezzlement of funds. If the information in the story is accurate, the president of the association, at the very least, should receive jail time.

I'd not heard of HOA's before Youtube led me down that particular rabbit hole - I'm still trying to get my head around why anyone would agree to the idea.

As an Aussie who moved to the USA and Nevada , I have to say the hoa in most places are appalling, they try to control every move of residents . The pathetic petty unnecessary fines where I lived were ridiculous and I don’t know how they can get away with it . I will never buy a condo again and am glad I sold

I've been looking to buy a house and I'm doing my best to avoid HOA areas.

Sounds like the Judge is receiving funds from the HOA.
  • @cheetobandido546
Why did the judge deny the homeowners' request? It sounds like a clear cut case of financial fraud.
