In this video I teach the basics of using a charcoal grill. I'm using a standard Weber 22 inch kettle grill, which in my opinion sets the standard for all other kettle grills. I cover everything from setting the grill up, to choosing your charcoal, to which accessories and utensils you will need. I will link to the grill and accessories below.

Immediately after hearing his accent I knew for sure he was a BBQ expert!!!!

This is the gold standard for how-to videos on YouTube. Clearly-framed, perfect narration, and none of the nonsense filler. Perfect.

As a northerner, I found your accent added instant credibility to the subject.

This guy is the Morgan Freeman of charcoal grill narration

The second he started talking and I heard that accent, I knew everything this man would say was pretty much gospel when it comes to barbecuing.

Used charcoal for the first time last week and I don't think I'll ever go back to propane. Your video helped a ton. Straight to the point, no BS. Thanks!
  • Thx so much. I joined the military and they’ve got me in a training command where they give us rooms that are like dorms. We don’t have an oven so if you wanna cook your own food there’s a microwave or you can use the grills provided outside. About two months in, I was really regretting not paying attention to my parents when they grilled 😂😂. Thx, the video helped a lot. Great accent too. I hear a lot of that in Louisiana.

Just wanted to say that I’m really grateful for your videos. I’ve just bought my first grill - a Weber - and I’m gearing up to my first barbecue (meaning I’m the one grilling and not just sitting down and eating). This is a first class tutorial and I can’t wait to binge watch the others. I’m in Portugal by the way and I know I’m learning from from the best! So big thanks from the other side of the ocean!
  • Thank you! I got myself a little charcoal bbq to take out to the park. As a single mom, I have to figure out things as I go! This video, simple as it may seem, is SO incredibly helpful for me! I'll be using this new knowledge to feed my kids (and many friends) this summer and for years to come! Thanks again!

Glad you pointed out the difference between lump and briquettes. I use lump when I cook steak or chicken breasts but the briquettes I use for when longer cooks in excess of 30 minutes.

Thank you thank you thank you!! I love your accent and I feel more comfortable with bbqing on Monday for my friends and family. I can't wait ! Thanks again!!

Thanks so much for this video. I've been cooking for many years, but always avoided the outside grill because nothing ever turned out right. Your instructional videos are just what I needed. Can't wait to get a grill now! ( Also appreciate that your videos are clean, and to the point!)
  • Getting ready to transition back to charcoal after more years than I care to admit on gas. Just need to finish my current tank of propane then I’m getting a Weber kettle. I’ve watched so many different videos and am continuing to watch many more. This particular video is the best, most succinct starter video for novices that I’ve seen. I love that you have a basic setup without all the fancy accessories. That is exactly what I’m going for! Thank you for taking the time to put this together. Subscribed.

  • Thank you my friend for all of this. I never used a charcoal grill and used your channel's content to help me go from charcoal newbie to being confident enough to make an amazing turkey breast on Thanksgiving for my family. Keep the great content up!!!
