Kate is the absolute fucking business. The word genius gets thrown around a lot, but in this case it's an adjective that is totally apt.

She's a storyteller and many of her songs are inspired by a literary narrative. According to Wikipedia, Cloudbusting takes its inspiration from the 1973 Peter Reich memoir A Book of Dreams which Bush read and found deeply moving, the song is about the very close relationship between psychiatrist and philosopher Wilhelm Reich and his young son, Peter. It describes the boy's memories of his life with Reich on their family farm, called Orgonon, where the two spent time "cloudbusting", a rain-making process which involved using a machine designed and built by Reich – a machine called a cloudbuster – to point at the sky. The lyrics further describes the elder Reich's abrupt arrest and imprisonment, the pain of loss the young Peter felt, and his helplessness at being unable to protect his father.
  • The whole of this album is incredible. The second side of the "Hounds of Love" album is called "The Ninth Wave". Check it out
  • Kate ended her 2014 concerts with this song, it was a great way to end the show; the whole audience and band chanting along in unison. I'll never forget the experience of being in the same space as Kate, seeing her for real with my own eyes. There was an amazing love between Kate and her audience, it was magic💖

Fun fact, Kate Bush pioneered the use of the headset microphone. Her first major concerts used a lot of dance, movement and props so she couldn't hold a standard microphone as she needed her hands free. So she's a bit of a tech wonder as well.
  • Just call her what she is Guys she’s a genius and no female artist comes anywhere close to her in the UK and beyond hey just an opinion and everyone likes something different she certainly delivers that 🌍✌🏼

Kate Bush is a genius, a true original and something of a pioneer for women. She was the first woman in the UK to have a self-written #1 song and #1 album. Kate has always stayed true to her vision.
  • This song makes my heart melt every single time. And the video is really touching. Kate Bush is a musical genius (I don't say that lightly) and I highly recommend the album 'Hounds of Love'. You won't regret it.
  • Every time l listen to her music is like the first time . it's woven into my soul. She is amazing.

This song has taken 30 years to unpack, genius.Sutherland had visa problems in Britain so volunteered his time. The best money Donald never earned. He must be proud of this one.

This was the encore for Kate's London concerts a few years back. To hear the whole audience sing along with the 'yay-ee-yay-ee-oh's was a deeply moving experience.

Fantastic song, and one of the best videos ever made. I get choked up every time I hear this song or watch the video.

Her voice is so beautiful you’d know it was was her within 5 secs of hearing it. So sweet. Such unpredictable phrasing. There’s a hypnotic feel on many of her songs too. Great submission.

Her albums from Never Forever onwards are all essential listening for anyone who appreciates real art and innovation in music, made by an artist who so obviously makes music because they have to. Many imitators followed, but she's still in a class of her own.

Yes that is Donald Sutherland, Kiefer Sutherland's father playing with Kate. And it's about Wilhelm Reich's son Keith'd memories. The song is pure magic.
  • @submerged10
I think this is my favorite Kate video and song. This is my first time I ever saw Donald Sutherland. Hugh Laurie was in her Experiment IV video which is wild.
