Neighbors aren't too happy about a new development going up near Elliot and Ellsworth. The City Council zoning board just approved a new data center campus can move forward with a height exemption.

A datacenter is actually a good neighbor to have. Zero traffic, lots of security.

How much water does that data center require for its machines?
  • @AJ-yx7cq
And how much water is this going to suck up?

"I'm not against data centers, just not in my damn backyard" The DEFINITION of Nimby from one... BTW - datacenters mean additional police patrols, security, low traffic, redundant power lines meaning less storm blackouts, etc... all good things for your neighborhood
  • In this area is Facebook(Eliot & Ellsworth) , Google, NTT, Apple, I’m not an expert on data centers but I do know based on all the heavy duty electrical grid upgrades, do we know where/how the additional electricity will come from? Would the extra consumption raise our rates and impact us during high capacity demands? Will they use the various dams to generate power reducing water levels in doing so? Just curious how that will work………..

not in my backyard, have these people never watched the news??? this is exactly why the economy is f'd, let me have a damn job!
  • Arizona sucks. I lived as far south as Vail and up as far north of Sedona. California completely ruined that state.
  • It's pointless. Apple has a data center on single butte near elliot. Crown castle has hubs everywhere in the city. Every carrier and service for example like youtube has data centers in the valley. The south mountain Antenas are data centers. We have data centers in the middle of the mountains of flagstaff, up north in the Indian reservations. It's necessary for us to use communications and the amount of water used is minimal because they use closes loop systems in bigger facilities such as apple, Intel, Microsoft, etc same systems at TSMC and even at state farm stadium. Those systems are built for efficiency, they do not waste water.

More industry= more jobs and progress. Down with lazy, selfish, myopic nimbys.

How much taxpayer subsidies and or kickbacks from the AZ state gov't are involved in all these datacenters? Companies don't build in places unless the state's taxpayers subsidize the companies. Corporate welfare at its finest (even if they promise jobs that never materialize). Keep the Ponzi going to create the façade of progress and success.

what's new!!! I don't know what these people are complaining about " they have already destroyed this valley with all this growth and over population, I've lived here in mesa 60 years and can remember real " peace and quiet ' back in the day , we actually had a peaceful and quiet back then !!

They make a lot of noise and use a lot of water.
