The Casket Girls

Published 2024-02-05
In the early 1700s, the new French colony of Louisiana was facing a population crisis. Jean Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, the Governor of Louisiana, asked the French government to send good, virgin women who could be married to the male French colonists in the territory. He was probably hoping for something similar to the Filles du Roi of New France, young gentlewomen who agreed to immigrate in exchange for a dowry paid by the king and a chance at a prosperous marriage.

Did the casket girls bring vampires to the new world of New Orleans in the 1700?

WOW!!!! I'm so glad to see you cover this one. I cane so close to doing it myself a little while back. You did it wonderfully. That convent acts too sketchy about the third floor to not be hiding something. Vampire or no...you can't help but imagine that France would not have sent over their best and brightest. If for no other reason, that would have caused trouble at home, right? Its stories like this one that makes me wish time travel were possible. I'd just stand at a distance and watch.

Wow Cassie, I really enjoyed this, Iโ€™ve been on a couple ghost tours in New Orleans, visited the cemeteries, especially the one that was portrayed in Vampire Diaries, and Marie Lavoueโ€™s grave. Anne Riceโ€™s house, she is one of my favorite authors. This was super interesting, you did it so well! Thank you !
