Jeep Wrangler TJ - Windshield HINGE replacement. Headlight BEZELS painted black - Goodbye CHROME!

Published 2020-08-29
Man this project was way harder than it should have been. Glad its over and I love the new look with the black windshield hinges! I do not like the chrome on my TJ. If you plan to tackle this project, make sure you bring some elbow grease and a lot of patience! Maybe yours will better than mine (hopefully).
Here is the link to the paint I used. I use it for most of my projects.

VHT Chassis Paint (I like the gloss)

The last video I watched , the guy took the entire dash apart to do this. He said there were nuts behind the bracket in th frame that needed held. I’m pretty pleased to,see you don’t need to,do that lol
  • Great video. I have a 2004 black LJ that I put some doors off mirrors on and the same issue with the same bolt. I know your frustration. I'll be putting new hinges on as well after recently finding out that my hinges are inoperable.

10:28. That bolt is supposed to be a different style. If u remove the driver side and passenger side along with the roll bar bolts the windshield is able to drop down

Had to do the same thing when i worked on my brackets.
  • Looks good. Nice job!! I was worried for you when you were drilling on the passenger side. Video title should have been about perseverance. :-)

As for that side bolt, on my TJ it's a different bolt altogether. The rest are panhead and that one was raised off the surface.

Well Damn, I don't know if I should curse you or thank you. I want to do the same and get rid of that Chrome Window Hinge. That is the only chrome on mine as well. Black 2005. I curse you because I was worried about that issue as well and you just confirmed it. I curse you because I was going to buy some black ones, but I would be the same unlucky recipient of the crappy shipped ones. I do want to thank you as those look so much better and I think may be worth the trouble. I really am worried about what to do if the nut insert gets ruined. Do you think an impact wrench would have done the trick on that one?

That's supposed to be a round head bolt.

Have you heard of tape? It's amazing for " blocking " paint !
