    I always thought, that the reason for Spongebob's parents being round and brown was because the're old and used up (because they're sponges and you see Spongebob several times being used as a kitchen sponge). If you use the same kichten sponge for about 50 years I think it's pretty plausible, that it'll change colour and shape over the decades
