Parke Trumpet Mouthpieces: EXPLAINED

Published 2020-09-22
In this week's video, I do a super deep dive into Parke Mouthpiece Center's trumpet mouthpiece labeling and naming system. These mouthpieces are legendary in the orchestral trumpet community, and I am so happy to provide what I think is a complete guide to understanding their sizing system to help find the right one for you. This company is so committed to precision that they have developed an extremely descriptive and precise way to name their mouthpieces and all of the potential variations you might see on the used market... so buckle up, bring a notepad, and get ready to be amazed.

Hands-down the best presentation of Parke products out there! I consider myself a pretty big nerd, and I learned a lot. Way to go Jon, keep it up!

Your channel has really great content. Thank you ! Now, I know I will never be able to choice between all these possibilities :-D
  • Awesome video Jon, do you know if Parke offers acrylic rims? I have an allergy to both silver and gold and prefer the feel and grip of synthetic rims.

  • Jon, you need to make a PDF of your nerd certificate and post it in your listings! I will hang it in my studio!

Hi Jon, I recently discovered your channel and am loving the nerd mouthpiece stuff! Great job, keep it up! I'm curious, what has been your experience with Parke 3 piece sets versus 1 piece models? About 20 years ago I bought some Parke parts from a friend and I ended up using them for some years, basically a 275-24 cup with 2 different 655 rims, one a Merkelo AMD one an Orchestral. After some trying I convinced them to make me some similar one piece models with a 655 rim. I bought 3, a 275, 278, and 280 cups. Unfortunately the rims were so different from my older screw rims that I didn't like them at all and ended up selling them. I think they were annealed, this was maybe 12 years ago or so.
  • Great video Jon! Question for you: I’m ordering a 640-275-24 Orchestral, but I’m worried about the bite being too sharp. What are your experiences with the R6 rom. I know it has a softer bite then the standard rim, but how much softer? Is it roughly equivalent to a 1C, or a 1.5C Bach, or maybe a Pickett or Schilke Symphony rim? Any help you could give would be amazing! Where I’m from, we can’t try Parke’s easily.
  • Hey Jon, I’ll be in Chicago for a few weeks and Id love to stop by Parke to try out some mouthpieces. Do I just message them on one of their social media’s to set up an appointment or is there another way I should go about it? Thanks!

What are the advantages and physical qualities of an “orchestral” style rim?
  • @itsbjorn
Checked the website...doesn't look like they are selling online now
