Very beautiful..to watch with this .. and for the Mummy's you can open a dam up fast then you lose control ... of the water. This way by going slow. You are in control just how many millions of water pressures is behind that flap? Great Job to the camera man.... life runs to fast slow down a watch a day cleans its sekf.

Give the cameraman anything other than a raise
  • All that buildup just for shoddy camera work and a finger right at the important bits.

The closer it got to opening the further into the shot the finger got wow. You might want to try this again minus the finger.

The Gates "wall" seals are Fecking impressive... there appears to be minimal, neigh on no leakage until the gate drops below the reservoir level...

So , instead of collecting the debris , they just send it downstream? Not our problem anymore.

any slower it would have dried up due to evaporation. click bait

This officially qualifies as a waste of time .

I'm surprised those ladder cages didn't get ripped off

Thanks for sharing! I've worked at hydro plants before, and almost nothing happens quickly at hydroelectric plants. (except for the excited electrons being generated of course!) The gate to the penstock that we were working on at the time, would take upwards of 12+ hours to fully open or close. Most people will never get the opportunity to see these processes in action outside of videos like this. Just for context, are you able to share the site where this footage was taken? I understand if you cant. Thanks again for showing us this.

This is an interesting film, thanks. The finger masking is a natural and organic product in the development of filmmaking. Good job.

It is flabbergasting. Hope the next episode will comprise "socks drying at the Hoover Dam" or "opening plug after bath". To be continued!

For people complaining that it's slow; it needs to be. If it moved quickly then it could create a cavity that all that water would rush to fill into. That is an incredible amount of water and is incredibly heavy. If that amount of water slammed into the gate at once, it could be damaged or destroyed and cause a disaster.
