Tips for Getting a First-come, First-served Wilderness Camping Permit

A wilderness permit is required in order to camp in the backcountry or wilderness of Mount Rainier National Park. Wilderness permits are available only on a first-come, first-served basis in 2016. Ranger Daniel explains some tips to make your attempt to get a wilderness camping permit successful.

  • For two years in a row I’ve walked into the ranger station at Longmire and the rangers were able to provide me with a wonderful itinerary. Follow Ranger Daniel’s advice. They are patient, knowledgeable and eager to accommodate us.
