In case anyone's wondering, the review only uses footage from the opening cinematic and the first three kingdoms. I tried to strike a balance between being thorough and being spoiler-free, so I'm hoping anyone can enjoy it. And if you don't want to see too much of those first kingdoms, just listen to the review without watching and you should be fine.
  • “As long as you don’t complain about the motion controls!”
    “Ok”

    “Heh, heh, heh”
  • Stumbled across your videos while researching a Switch for my kids. Not only do I find the information well laid out, when talking about Mario and other Nintendo characters you remind me of when I was a kid playing these games. Thanks

Wait a minute... The SAND kingdom is the first fully open SANDbox world...
  • What the heck am I doing watching a review of Mario Odyssey two years after it came out and, after I already completed the game on its 100%?
I guess I'm nostalgic. The hype for this game and the experience of playing it it's something that I would like to repeat, and the emotion and love that Arlo gives in this video, makes me go back in time.
    Thanks Blue friend
  • 20:53 "and then when i finally conquer that challenge, i feel nothing but a great feeling of pride and accomplishment"

    oh, you
  • I'm 34 years old now and felt like a damned child during my time playing through Odyssey. Thank you, Nintendo, for reminding us that no matter how old we get on the outside, there's always a child lurking somewhere within!
  • I agree about the motion controls. There's a certain moon in Sand Kingdom that requires you to continuously shake the controllers while controlling a Bullet Bill and doing it in handheld mode is AWFUL.
  • I just bought a switch and this game and it’s an amazing experience for me because of how hooked my 4 y/o son is on it. This game is gonna be to him what super Mario bro’s 3 was to me. In thirty years he’s gonna be digging out his old switch just to play this game. He likes other games we got like luigis mansion and Mario party but this is the game that has made him a gamer

Alright, time to put everything aside to watch this.
  • @zSPC
we need a luigi's mansion on the switch that looks like this

    "Hey, where's my graphic?"

My first thought: "Nintendo had it taken down for copyright infringement because it included the Super Mario Odyssey logo."
  • "BenBen, unquestionably my number one fan."
I... I'm dead... I can see Duck-Face Death right beside me...
  • I would have found it hilarious if the clothing had effects, but were completely useless as a joke, like
    Spoilers for some outfits!

Cowboy Outfit - Better at dueling
Samurai Outfit - Better at sparing
Crazy Cap Outfit - Get a 50 coin discount at Crazy Cap... Expired last year.
Explorer Outfit - Can throw out a rope to climb, but it's all out.
Resort Outfit - Fall asleep faster on beach chairs if they have a towel on them
Kings Outfit - Sparkle 50% more

I didn't even realize it until now about the starting area. There's a giant city almost surrounding this island on the coast: it's ManHATtan island!
  • I'd have less of a problem with the motion controlls if the controller didn't have 8 STINKIN UNUSED BUTTONS that could easily have the motion control moves mapped to them!
A and B both do the same thing.
    Same with X and Y.
    L and R
    ZL and ZR
3 buttons on the d-pad go unused
As does pushing in the left joystick.

EDIT: I understand that the controls have to be simplistic, but they still can be. Snapshot mode could be remapped to pushing in the right joystick (who honestly uses first person view?) and the up, down, and spinny cap throws could be mapped to the up, down, and left & right d-pad buttons, respectively. I think most people would be able to understand that. And for captured creatures, Y for example could do the dash move, and X could be used for the super fast dash. B could be used for a normal jump for frogs or something, and A for a super jump. You'd be hard pressed for find someone that can't understand a control scheme like that.

Or Nintendo could just, ya know, let us remap the controls ourselves.

I want that Youtube channel that Death started to be real lol
  • Arlo: "Moons aren't tedious."
me: cries in Wooded kingdom sheep minigame
  • Every time I feel like I'm getting tired of the game I'm playing, I watch one of your videos about that game and get so pumped up to play it again, that my controller's usually in my hand less than 2 minutes into the runtime. Thank you so much for all that you do man, you really manage to get across what really makes these games beautiful and special.
