It’s time to declutter my home again, and I hope making this video will keep me accountable and inspire you to get some decluttering and organizing done in your home as well.

For me, getting rid of clutter means less to clean, less to organize, and less stress. It also means more energy, more money, and more time.

I was raised in a Slavic household during a time when people rarely got rid of things. When items such as clothing, household goods, and appliances were difficult to get, you held onto them as long as possible. Even if they were worn out or no longer needed. That was due to scarcity.

So when I was a child, it was typical for people around me to hoard things. At the same time, there was stuff people never used or used only several times a year because it was considered too valuable to be used frequently. My grandma, for instance, had a set of dinnerware that we only used on New Year’s Eve. It was forbidden to touch it on any other day.

It’s no wonder why now I intentionally focus on having only those things that truly brings me joy. To achieve that, decluttering is a must.

I’ll share my top 5 decluttering strategies that have finally helped me escape hoarding. I hope you’ll find them helpful. Enjoy:)

  • Wow, your childhood sounds like there were some pretty tough parts to it. My mom grew up without much money and only now at 71 is she getting comfortable letting things go.
  • Just found you and I love your videos. New subscriber here 🙋🏽‍♀️ Greetings from Czech Republic ❤️
  • I wonder if we punish ourselves for sunk cost by making ourselves keep the item "to get use from it". That's something to look at.

Hi Katya, thank you for this inspiring video! :) I am in the process of decluttering and replacing items with high-quality pieces, that I truly love (especially clothes.) The hoodies you showed in the video looked really great so I wanted to ask you where they are from and if you can recommend them? 🌷 Sending love from Germany
