  • Brennan's ability to monologue endlessly about absolutely anything and also nothing is always an incredible spectacle to behold.
  • @TheKyfe
My favorite independent clip is Zac and Brennan, "Defendant stupidly interrupts his lawyer during closing remarks." It is the perfect display of the strengths of the two actors.
  • @HeyyItsDaleVODS
"I struck down Helvetica," goes so far beyond any other line in these bits.
  • @jahnabanana
Zac Oyama is a silent killer and I am obsessed with him.
  • @Yammenkow
Brennan establishing the thanksgiving dinner scene as the frame narrative in his first prompt was brilliant world building

so the thing that Brennan is talking about @32:50 (or so) is real! He made up a fake scene. The real scene was in Fantasy High (s1) where Adaine delivers some harsh but fair advice to the incel fairy Biz Glitterdew. It got on Tiktok and immediately started to make it rounds amongst people who didn't realize that it was a dnd show. Brennan got absolutely blasted and Siobhan got it even worse. Dropout went ahead and pulled the clip from the offical d20 tiktok but the video will sometimes still makes it round and you'll get new outrage from people who don't get the context.

i’d say another iconic trio that includes zac oyama is with jacob and vic! they have 2 eps tgt in make some noise, masters at improv honestly
  • @M_LikesToStab
If you want more improv on Dropout, watch Play It By Ear, it’s a show where they improvise 1 Act musicals.
  • "i hork down shark pork on my park of larb" is one of my favourite vocal stims

i feel like zac coming in with a silly goofball energy for comic sans would have been the wrong choice. brennan has begun the scene incredibly seriously, and established zac as "not having any serifs with you". that established zac as another person of significant importance within this kingdom, and worthy of diplomacy against an invading force. if zac were to come in and bring goofball energy to this character, it would betray what brennan had established. zac's "man of the people" interpretation of comic sans both works as a characterisation of the font, and also fits with brennan's worldbuilding. the ending with zac transforming into Wingdings and escaping from Times New Roman is also incredibly good because it makes the world feel so much wider than this scene. it's an incredibly silly strategy, and yet it catches TNR completely offguard and succeeds. it implies so much more about the world, and about these characters, their motivations, what they've encountered before and what's new to them. a performance where CS is silly from the getgo and throughout couldnt have a moment like that.

Dropout is the epitome of true creatives doing good stuff in the world!
  • Officially ready to start referring to you on a first name basis so I can really capitalize on knowing you back when even though I'm just a viewer 😂😌😎
  • I would love to see you react to “shoot from the hip.” It’s my favorite improve group and it always causes me to burst into laughter no matter the situation.
  • @hugomendoza5665
idk why but "am I not already on the list?" was the funniest joke in the whole thing for me lol
  • @SylviusTheMad
It seems as though Brennan has a whole writing team living in his head.

One of the first lessons as an improvisational musician that I learned in college was about the difference between something being planned versus unplanned, and something being meant to sound planned or unplanned. Those are two very different ideas. A lot of the best improvisation is the sort of stuff that is unplanned but it's meant to sound like it is planned out in advance. There's a reason why there have always been so many comments of people asking if the contestants know the prompts ahead of time, to the point where they disclaim it at the beginning of the show that they don't. They probably had a little bit more time than what is shown in the edit sometimes, but it's a matter of seconds, not any real advanced notice

18:07 Heck yeah! I think it would be super interesting and illustrate just how different people think, as well as how completely different choices can be made and still be very funny and work.
  • You should watch the Game Changer episode that they did the first musical improv on. (Season 4 episode 5 The Official Cast Recording) It's so good that it's hard to believe it was improv. It was eventually spun off into their musical improv show Play It By Ear. Or the Make Some Noise episode with Wayne Brady. It's improv Karaoke based on the artist and song name.
  • @daliareds
It'd be awesome to see your takes on the prompts! Also, it would be interesting to see you react to Brennan's old improv performances on YouTube. They don't have the best video or audio quality, but they're still fun
  • The instant I saw Zac's outfit I knew exactly what episode this was omg. The blue cranberries bit is one of my all time faves
