They are discussing this too late. The two already married with two kids. Marriage discussion is just silly for drama plots.

I'm African buh calling other woman ur property in her parents face is disrespectful 😮
  • The guy that explained the whole thing may not have been the correct spokesperson for this topic 😂. He just made it worse.

If the mother was hesitant before ,this guy made it worse. She is their "property". They also forget to mention what comes with the bride price. It's not just a tradition. It implies that her own family is no longer a family or a priority in her life. She is supposed to be devoted to husband's family and not hers. Mother has legit concerns

THAT'S WHY YOU TAKE TIME AND GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER, CULTURAL DIFFERENCES, AND FAMILIES.

Bride price is not a purchase, it’s a material appreciation of the woman by the man’s family. She’s not property, he chose his words poorly.

She’s going home with you women stop dragging it.
  • @Kelly-mi1yz
When the man explains it like that…. I wouldn’t want my daughter to be thought of like that. And she has to be buried in 🇨🇲???

Emily’s mom has beautiful face features ❤

In Africa, bride price is simply a token paid by the grooms family to the brides family in appreciation to them for bringing up the girl till the point of marriage. After bride price has been paid by the groom, it signifies that traditionally the lady has become a wife to the man. The bride price is just one of many other traditional rites to be carried out as demanded by the culture and tradition of the people. However, it doesn’t mean or make the bride the man’s property in literal sense. It’s an expression to mean that she is traditionally accepted into the grooms family and has automatically become one of them “their own” by the virtue of marriage based on traditional law and custom. These conversations should have been had way before the day of the traditional wedding and clearly explained to Emily’s parents to calm their fears and address their concerns. The spokesman for the family did a terrible job conveying the message. A more fluent person in English language or an interpreter should have been used in order to bridge the communication gap. Her parents should have done their research before coming to Cameroon. Moreover, Emily and Kobe have been legally married for a couple of years with 2 kids, and that in itself is valid enough anywhere in the world. The traditional marriage is just for Emily and her family to also experience Kobe’s roots and culture, and learn what it means to be an African from Cameroon, just the same way Kobe has learnt and adapted to the American culture.

Now who chose the old man as family spokesperson…. He is not very reassuring.
  • @ekg891
The producers 100% asked this man to use the word property. In my culture bride price is paid because a daughter adds more value to the household than a son. Its also just a way to weed out all the men who arent serious about you at all and negotiating the price is a way to introduce the two families and a way for them to get to know each other in a short space of time
  • @potleyagits
Omg, i was in Kobe’s side until his brother ruined the explanation. Property is the worst word to use when it comes to the union of 2 cultures that have different views on women’s role in the family/society. Uffffff! 😅
  • @user-kt9ir6bo8z
They should ask for a price so astronomical his family can’t pay it… problem solved.
  • @carolhenny2790
She’s not a property! Mom has ever right to express how uncomfortable she feels and she shouldn’t do it if she doesn’t want to even if they call in the village. They’re basically saying it my way or the highway. Well heck , take the highway. Emily’s Dad embraced Kobe at their American wedding, gave him something priceless because he wanted to. They were so emotional and warm, compared to now being bullied into something that does not feel good. I’ve lost respect for Kobe.
  • @colei752
If you want to use this logic, her father shouldn’t have walked her down the aisle her first wedding then because that’s her father giving over her daughter to the new husband .
  • @mizulightblue
And here people did not understand why her mom was upset. I also would be and I would not accept this. I hope they fight more for their daughter. This is disgusting.
  • @shammydammy2610
That's when you demand a bride price so exorbitant that it will never be met. Or simply refuse to be a part of this.
  • @rinabitoni3746
She is making it more difficult than it has to be. Its just a formality! What do they think is going to happen??? 😂😂😂
  • Emily knew what she was getting into. She didn’t tell her parents of anything lol
