We used to go with the children every year in the 90s. It was fantastic. The jousting was very entertaining. The serpent train round the edge. Tower of Terror was great. The falconry displays. Ghost train just inside on the left. Somethimng for everyone. It was a shame it closed.

I loved this place as a kid, The tower of terror got me over my fear of inverted roller-coasters due to the loop being hidden in the Tower and not finding out until I rode it.

Thanks for all your research and hard work on this Darren. It made me a bit emotional watching, but also brought back lots of good memories.
  • I’ve got some really fond memories of this theme park. My last visit there was in 2012 and I remember it was a lovely sunny day. It always blows my mind how you can go to somewhere and regularly visit, yet one day you don’t realise it will be your last. It’s sad.

Knocking it out the park as usual. *Pun absolutely intended. Your visuals and photo fades are easily the best of this type on YouTube.

I went there as a teen in the mid 90's - probably near its peak. Theres always something really eerie about an abandoned theme park imo - you can almost hear the laughter and screams echoing around....

Darren, this must be the first time when you did photo fades that the old and new were both in color. Sad that the park closed, people today spend WAY too much time indoors sitting. Without places like this to go to kids find a way of getting in some sort of mischief. All the people that paid a visit Camelot will always have the memories. Thanks for your time and effort you put into your work. Breaks over, back to work for me....... lol
  • Enjoyable article but at the same time quite sad. No doubt the site of many happy family memories over the last 30+ years.
  • I will say that this will probably be my most favourite explore you have done so far! Crystal Palace being the second. I love seeing abandoned theme parks even when bare but because you always bring these places back to life its even more amazing. Can't wait for the second part!
  • I was lucky enough to live round the corner in Coppull and could walk to Camalot from my house with my friend in the late 80s early 90s. We used to get discounted tickets because we lived so close. The Beast is still my favourite Dark ride. Tower of Terror is where you would find us all at the end of the day getting off the ride and then running round to get straight back on again. Great memories.

Darren, I absolutely love your video content. As an enthusiast I love the theme park and amusement park content, mixed with history and fascinating information. Your other historical content is also very interesting and highlights great places to go explore and visit. Yet again, the photo fades add massively to the content and are done so well. There’s an air of sadness, for something we’ve lost and will never get back. Thank you and keep it up. There really isn’t anything else like this on YouTube 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I grew up going here every summer with friends we used to take the back door into the theme park, it's a shame it closed as would of loved to taken my child
  • Another great video Darren, love the fade before and after images. I visited in 2008, mainly for Knightmare which was a great ride. I didn't think much of the rest of the park and I remember the food been terrible. It might have been more suited to families and not thrill seekers. The kind of place you'd visit once rather than the bigger parks were you'd go back again and again.

Another superb video Darren, and i can't wait to see the rest of the series. The irony that the new rollercoaster was refused planning permission because it was slightly higher than anything existing on the park, and would spoil the landscape, but when driving past on the M6 Motorway you could clearly see the existing rollercoaster anyway so what difference would it make! It was a local landmark. If only they had seen fit to dig down 10ft, the new coaster would've been ok to build! I'm guessing not enough money was passed over in brown envelopes so they refused it. Camelot was a brilliant day out but, it was badly managed and never changed with the times. Also, the opening hours were very restrictive so it was a mad dash around to try and get on every ride there when it was hugely expanded, rather than a relaxing & enjoyable day out.

Another brilliant video Darren, its very very sad to see very little left. Unfortunately it takes ages to build things but can be gone in Seconds. As for the local council they won't allow houses to go onto the old park, they want a new park built, however I think that this will keep going on for the remainder and nothing will get sorted which is very upsetting, I look forward to part 2 of your visit!
  • @MrChrisBarker
It's just sad to see these places empty/derelict.. we really are a throwaway society.
  • @richtiff
Cracking photo fades as always, although the most powerful bit for me was the time-lapse style Google Earth changes over the years. Interesting to see the woodlands properly fighting back in the central valley!
  • @bobly
Thank you Darren for another fascinating video, of seeing Camelot theame park before and after. I have never been but to see what would have been there was exciting, and when you had the drone up, you could imagine the buildings a shame it had to go
  • @Coaster_Crazy
Amazing video mate, loved how you managed to line up the new footage with the old pictures, must have taken ages to do that !! God I miss this park loads, it was the UK’s best “themed” theme park
  • @8wardy
I have so many good memories of this park. I remember an attraction called "Roller-Quest" in the entertainment complex. I pushed through all the other kids to scan the sensors on the wall and achieved the daily high score and was given a complimentary baseball cap from one of the staff. The tower of terror was an amazing ride for a 10/11 year old, I remember falconry displays near the castle that surrounded the loop of the coaster. The live jousting tournaments were absolutely epic. So sad when I heard about the closure as I would love to come here as an adult. Probably my favourite theme park.
