Welcome, friends! Today's painting demo is this lovely wistful watercolour landscape, with some gorgeous elegant conifers and a lone egret (or white heron, if you prefer) waiting patiently on the lakeshore.

Equipment list:
Today I'm using Saunders Waterford brand 100% cotton watercolour paper, size a quarter of an imperial sheet (so a little under A3 size), weight 140lb cold pressed. My paints are: Indigo, Cerulean Blue, Perylene Green, Sepia, and Lamp Black, all Winsor & Newton Cotman range, (except for the Perylene Green, which is Winsor & Newton Professional colour range).
My brushes are: a large 2 inch Daler Rowney Aquafine flat 'Skyflow' synthetic wash brush; a smaller 1 inch Princeton Neptune synthetic flat Mottler brush; a size 6 round synthetic brush, from the Mastertouch Aquamarine set of round watercolour brushes by Ken Bromley Art Supplies; a Pro Arte synthetic Sword liner brush size Small; a Matthew Palmer Tree & Texture brush size Large; and a Pro Arte 'Masterstrokes' Series 60 miniature brush, size 4/0.

Thank you for watching, friends! As always, your comments/questions are all most welcome, please feel free to leave them down below. I hope you have a great day wherever you are, and whatever you're up to; and happy painting!

Dear morgaine, this is so atmospheric. The two blues you chose gave it a calm magical feel and the little egret is so sweet. Great in-depth tips and techniques. Thankyou .

I haven't seen an egret for about 10 years !!! When we first moved to this area, we would frequently se one or to feeding from a local brook, and from a golf course when it flooded. I was afforded some great opportunities to grab some photos. One of which I was really pleased with. It was a close up of just it's head and neck. Alas, the laptop with all those pics on, some 7 thousand plus, died, taking all the photos with it. I know it's just photos, but with memory issues like mine, to me they were important in holding memories for me. I can't really place this kind of setting. Kind of somewhere, and nowhere. I couldn't guess at Ospreys, or carrion having air dominance.. Never the less, it's a wonderfully still image, in a silent setting. Away from motorways, airports, and railway lines. I couldn't imagine having a cosy cottage any place close. More like a wooden shack, tucked in the woodlands, with a pile of logs against the outer wall, ready for cooking over, and keeping warm in the cooler months. Well, that's my take on it anyway. 😉 TTFN sweet lady.
