Update from Carnival Australia President Sture Myrmell - April 1, 2020

Published 2020-03-31
Carnival Australia President Sture Myrmell has today come out in strong defence of the Australian cruise industry and its contribution to the Australian, state and regional economies in supporting jobs, suppliers of fresh produce, travel agents and tourism-related businesses. He has also strongly supported calls from the industry association – CLIA Australasia – for cruise operators to be able to repatriate crew from now out of service cruise ships in a safe, orderly and compassionate way.

Well said Mr President, People (the community) seem to forget the amount of business that cruising brings to the Australian economy, and thats not to mention the rest of the world. The way Princess (and Carnival) has conducted itself throughout this whole crisis is fantastic. It has made me realize even more what a great company it is. Well done Princess, keep up the good work and I am looking forward to my next cruise with you.

Well said and thank you for providing these magnificent ships for those of us who love cruising to enjoy. I wish you and all the cruising fraternity all the very best and I for one, can't wait to be onboard again!

Well said, Im a cruise-a-holic and have been on over 15 cruises in 8 yrs and I was booked on one for Easter (which if it was still cruising I would go on), and booked on a Princess cruise in Canada in Sept for my Honeymoon (fingers crossed I get to go on that one). I will definitely continue cruising once this is all over and done with. Keep up the excellent work, stay strong and may all your staff stay safe and well and return (if they have made it home) back to work on the ships......I love Cruising <3

I am so fortunate to have worked for and been a consultant to a couple of cruise lines and have owned my own logistics business, handling cruise vessels in Tahiti, Australia and New Zealand. I have traveled on cruise ships from several cruise lines. The staff and crew on these cruise lines work tirelessly to ensure that the expectations of the owners are delivered. Many staff and crew are on 6 months contracts. Every single day, they deliver service, without a day off. Not one day. Many Australians and New Zealanders have enjoyed cruises on various cruise lines. In particular, the parent company of many cruise lines is Carnival Cruises. They own the vessels of Carnival Corp, Cunard, Seabourn, Holland America, Costa, AIDA, P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises. Presently, Carnival Corp has several ships, just a few miles off the coast of Sydney, along with vessels from Royal Caribbean Cruise line and one from Celebrity Cruise line. To the Owners and management of these cruise lines: Please do the right thing for your crew and staff who work so hard on all the ships. Organize, with the Australian Government, that the crew and staff on board your ships, who do not exhibit any of the symptoms of the Coronavirus are booked on chartered flights and are taken back to their homes. Take great care of those who are ill. Work with our Government to ensure they receive the best care when taken off your ships and delivered to one of our hospitals. You would not be successful if it were not for your incredible staff and crew.

The Ruby is one of my favorite ships, but I have only sailed on her around California/Mexico. Sometimes you have to stand up for yourself! Thank you for clarifying the information. β€οΈπŸ›³

I have been on many cruises with Carnival & was booked on a cruise on the Splendor leaving Sydney on 27 April for New Caledonia which has now been cancelled. As disappointing as it is it is understandable. I wish all the crew & staff of the Carnival ships good luck & am looking forward to using my cruise credit in the future
  • @JustinHygate
Well said. Best wishes to your entire company and crews.

I love cruising, I am looking forward to getting back on a shipas soon as it is feasible.

Agreed 100%, thank you for tackling to falsehoods head-on.
  • @roberre164
NSW Health were the ones who stuffed it up. They are the ones solely responsible for allowing the Ruby Princess passengers to leave the ship with no checks whatsoever.
