DO OWLS MAKE GOOD PETS?
The demand for owls as pets has skyrocketed recently, but is having a pet owl a good idea? I visit the International Owl Center in southern Minnesota to meet some incredible owls, and find out the answer to this question…

Ah, owls. Cat software on bird hardware. (They're very fascinating birds.)
  • @WingedHassar
Why does every owl I see look at me like it has seen my web history?!
  • @steveklick
The lady is super informative. I think her constant reference to owls "ripping off your face" is hilarious. Lolol.
  • @ilovenycsomuch
They remind me of cats if they had wings... pet-friendly or not they’re so beautiful & adorable

“i cant say it for legal reasons but it rhymes with harry potter” 😂😂😂 liked
  • Thank you, Carla. I thought about having a pet owl, but I learned about these raptors not being a quality every day pet. They are serious business, and I will admire them from afar.
  • Read the book Wesley the Owl. It's about a researcher who takes an injured baby owl home (reluctantly) and it becomes imprinted on her. Some of the things Wesley does is cute like trying to brush his teeth and wash his face, are cute but others would be horrifying for the typical pet owner. It is a heartwarming story but realistic as well.

I've always wanted to have a relationship with an owl, they are incredible creatures. Owls and corvids are definitely my favorite birds. I truly love your animal adventures, too cool!

5:15 That owl is squinting at you as if to say, "You best back the hell up. I'm about to pounce if you don't get outta my SPACE, FOOL!"

The screech owl was absolutely adorable.

Here in the UK one of the suspected reasons we now have Eurasian Eagle Owls in the wild is because people who had seen Harry Potter and wanted an owl for themselves brought them over and when they got too big (and start to chase around the pet dog) they opened the door and let them leave.

What an awesome little documentary on Karla and the owls, this lady deserves a lot of credit indeed for all the work she has done and is still doing to make this world a better place for owls. And it is so good to see this place again which I am lucky to call my home in America.

I love this lady's directness and matter of fact demeanor

“Owls are very expressive” Owl: Biiiiiitch....

I always love owls, one of my favorite birds of prey, but I never thought about owning one. I am fortunately almost done with my fisheries and wildlife sciences degree and one day I would love to work with these. But right now my satisfaction is to just learn about them through videos like yours. And if someone really wants a pet bird there is nothing wrong with parrots, they are very sociable.

One of the best moments of my life, I was outside in the night listening to some owls talking in the trees. They can get very vocal if their is enough of them.
  • Amazing! Thank you! I think we humanize them readily and don't take into consideration their real needs/instincts. Really cool to see the behaviors and understand them better now.
