Testing on different ps5s isn't good testing. You should test all of them in one machine.
  • @mothbrained
your results have likely been skewed by caching. your playstation has already cached the data and your first tested drives will be significantly slower than your last tested drives, because as you repeat the transfer more the console will cache more.
  • I used the Wd black sn850 since the day the sd drive was unlocked and I’ve had zero problems so far
  • Would it of killed you to make a super simple excel spreadsheet with all of the respective drives/speeds/prices?🤦‍♂

I bought myself the 2 TB Corsair MP600 PRO during the prime day sale on Amazon for 122 Euros. The read speed is 7100 Mbps and the write is 6800 Mbps. I couldn't be happier with its performance. I formatted the drive 3 times to test its consistency. With each format, the speed just increased in its read speed. Started with 630 Mbps on the first format and 6500 Mpbs on the third format. Even if the write speed is UPTO 7100 Mbps, I think the PS5 reads it in a different way. No matter which drive you buy, with read speed over 6500 Mbps, the PS5 will read them between 6000 Mbps - 6500 Mbps. I moved all my games to the nvme drive and so far I haven't had any issues with downloading the games or running them off the nvme drive whatsoever. In my opinion, corsair is the best option to go for. It is cheaper than the others and offers comparatively better Read/Write speeds.

Here's a few things that would help your testing. First of all, ignore the download speeds. That can vary significantly due to your ISP's and Sony's CDN traffic. Second, ignore the disc install speed. Blu-ray read speeds are significantly slower than what these NVME drives are capable of doing. For the actual testing, you should use larger games for the transfer test, run it multiple times for each drive, and then show the results for both transferring to and from the drive. Doing it this way should help prevent any background system processes from throwing off the results too much.
  • A cheaper M.2 gen 4 NVME drive that I used that worked very well was a Inland Performance 2 TB just make sure you get the Gen 4 version, it is almost as fast as a Sabrant rocket 2 TB drive I have. I got both during an Amazon sale.
  • I bought the FireCuda 530 1TB last March for $190. Now it is $140. I love it. I have it set up so any PS5 games download to the internal storage and PS4 games download to the 530. Your video was done very well. My only suggestion would be to do each test 3 times per drive, throw out the longest time and average the other 2. Good video, well done.
  • Thanks for putting in the effort to make this video. For future videos, I would like to see more visual representation (e.g., results, drive names) on screen. It is extra work, but I think it would make the video more coherent. Max Tech (a Macbook youtube channel) have good examples how to do performance comparison vids, imo.
  • @MrMcDrunk
Bought the Corsair and the thing has been fantastic. Performed far better than what you experienced. Also you should’ve tested on the same ps5. Perhaps hardwiring them as well to get solid and accurate info.
  • @r3y3s84
Great video sir. From someone who didnt understand how these things work you thoroughly explained it well.
  • @d3tach3d
When Using Sonya Benchmark to test SSD drives speeds, They uses a different method to test and how the Read/Write speeds of the drive installed. So when compared to the numbers most companies advertise, Sony benchmark shows lower speeds and easily can fall below their Requirement, even though the advertised speeds online look to be enough. Not sure what sonys benchmark is based off but its differnt the the PC markets testing methodology. Most should look into it, for sure.
  • I just use the internal space, it’s good enough. Holds about 10 games or so, then I delete and add games as I beat them or no longer want to play them.
  • @dubsgrubz659
Got the 2 TB Corsair mp600 and have had no issues I couldn't even tell anything was different
  • @leokid000
This video is 1 year too late. Everyone know the Firecuda is king. The 980 is best bang per bucks.
  • @Major-Whoosh
Glad I waited to buy my Firecuda. The prices are very reasonable now.
  • @roadi7
I have the Corsair MP600 Pro Gen4 and it's fast and works perfect in my PS5 with no issues
