Can you freeze-dry guacamole and have it reconstitute to taste the same? I was totally skeptical, until I tried it!

Now we'll have jars of this on our pantry shelf, just waiting until we're ready for taco night. Come watch as I freeze-dry avocados, guacamole, cilantro and even sliced lime wedges... yes, they actually come back just like a fresh lime!

A couple notes from my own avocado FD-ing experience. Avocados have oil in them so they will go rancid over time. For that reason I don't package them for long-term storage. I'd consider them to be for short term storage only for that reason. I tried blending them into a powder and the heat from the blender actually made them be mush because of the heat/oil. If you want a powder, I'd go with the bag and rolling pin method. I actually put mine in the freezer for storage after freeze drying just because I don't use them all that fast and I don't want the oil to turn on me. I have a few in my fridge right now waiting to be processed in the freeze dryer. I only use them in smoothies and this is perfect for that. I also freeze dry my berry and spinach blend and Greek yogurt for smoothies.
  • You need you own tv show, no your own channel. You are a delight to listen to and have a very soothing voice. Great information and very educational. Thank you!
  • Here in South East Asia, everybody uses avocados for smoothies. So you could definitely freeze it and use later.. Banana and avocado smoothie is actually quite good... And very good for your digestive system
  • If freeze dryers weren't so expensive, I'm sure most of us would have them. It would be nice to be able to freeze dry foods for sure.
  • Very thorough and explanatory with a winning manner. Wish I could afford one of these machines! This is one of the best D.I.Y. food videos out there...

I got an Excalibur food dehydrator second hand and I've used it so much. Several times a week to use up food that's about to turn. A freezer dryer is the dream! 😊
  • This is very helpful and a confirmation for those that have not freeze dried avocado. It is truly the perfect way to preserve avocado. Take advantage when the avocado is on sale and also lemon and lime! Thank you Carolyn for your teaching others in your calm, gentle teachings.
  • I didn't even know there were such things as "kitchen freeze dryers" for the home. Subscribed.
  • Thank you for showing the rehydrating process …I just bought one myself…and am continually amazed at all of the foods that can be saved…stay blessed
  • @jodeeh1675
That looks so fun, not to mention tasty. I love the idea of having guacamole any time, no waiting for an avocado to ripen.
  • @GrammyMidwife
I want a freeze drier so badly! And now you’re making me want one even more! 😂
  • @LivProd
I like that you showed us what to do, how to do it, then tested the finished product for us to see. Thank you!
  • @WMGEC
Thank you for showing us how this works. I’d love to have one of these freeze dryers to preserve leftovers, large batches of food, or make my own backpacking meals.
  • @cherylbishop7657
Hi ,just so ya'll know harvest right has a layaway. I just paid mine off. GOD BLESS
  • @13c11a
Just amazing what you are able to do with a freeze dryer. Thanks for the demonstration.
  • I was given two boxes of avocados last week. I divided and gave them away. I still have 2/3 of a box . Glad I ran across video fir keeping them and storing.
  • @adsrentals
I'm single and have two small freeze dryers, love them! I enjoy making smaller batches fast, I did also invest in a chamber vacuum sealer to seal bags. The freeze dryer seals the jars better than the food saver.
  • @Patticombs
A freeze dryer is on my list of items to add to my preservation methods. In the meanwhile I’m learning how to better use my dehydrator. Love learning from you Carol and am so grateful for the resources you and Josh work so hard to make available. Thank you!
  • @naomisee789
Thanks for the great idea!!! Here's a tiny tip on lime squeezing . . . if you insert a fork gently into the pulp and and as you squeeze, the tines can help you get more juice from each fruit with less time and effort. 👍
  • You just blew my mind!! In all my years I never imagined something like this could exist. Totally going to be investing in one of these marvelous contraptions. ✨️
