I always thought that Esai Morales should have won an Oscar for his role as Bob. He was able to play a very complex and troubled older brother very convincingly. His last words in the movie were powerful and conveyed the anguish Bob must have felt.

That shot of Ritchie and Bob running up that hill kills me every damn time. :(

Esai Morales brought so much heart to the role of Bob.

RIP to the actress who portrayed Rosie, the legendary great Elizabeth Pena 1959-2014👠🌹🌹🌷🌷🌷⚘⚘💐🌹🌹
  • The director is so correct that Lou Diamond Phillips heart is what really made the film, especially combined with the contrast of Esai Morales' Bob. And Esai was right when he said the Hispanic element of the film was secondary to the story. It's a great film which happened to be about a Hispanic character and his family.
  • now this film was selected to be preserved as part of the national film registry and will live on
  • I love this movie still one of my favorites and the actors did amazing job in there roles.
  • The 1st movie that showed Hispanics in a positive way not just gangsters and victims, just people trying to live and survive in this messed up world.

My favorite movie of all time, till this day it breaks ny heart at how Richies life was cut so short. RIP Ritchie and thank you for making us chicanos so proud because of your great success in life and Rock & Roll.

They could not have gotten anybody any better than Esai Morales to play the part of Bob. One of my all time favorite movies
  • Oh my God, Esai Morales is more gorgeous than he was when I first seen this movie. I was 5 when I first seen this movie and still I cry everytime "Ritchieeeeee"

As a White looking Mexican / American who grew up in the San Fernando Valley (just ten minutes away from Pacoima, where Ritchie Valens lived) it's so amazing for this movie to be made. Just re-watched it last weekend and I still cried at the end. The movie was so well crafted and really honors the life of Ritchie Valens and his music. So grateful for the director and producers for putting so much heart into this. Funny coincidence, my dad and Esai Morales looked very identical when there were both younger. If my dad didn't go bald they'd still look alike!

I have this movie on my tablet. Now I want to watch it with new eyes. I enjoyed the movie so much that I went to Amazon and bought a cd with all Ritchies songs on it.
  • Taylor Hackford is like your typical humble white dude living in a Chicano neighborhood. Thank you Taylor and Luis for having that vision and making my favorite movie.
