This guy could make an appliance manual exciting to listen too. This is perfect narration.

"talk of politics was strictly forbidden, everyone had had enough" boy, that line aged well didn't it :D

The little match girl. My grade 1 teacher thought this was "good material for story time" when I was 6 years old. Never forgot it.
  • I know it's two years old but wonderful reading. I've been wanting to hear a good copy of The Family of The Vourdalak since I saw the 1972 film Night of Devil's earlier this year. For those reading it is a film adaptation of the story.
  • The Little Match Girl left me wanting to believe in ghosts, spirits and a good afterlife. HCA himself probably walked past kids like this every day back in the mid 1800's, knowing he couldn't help them all or make their world any safer...it makes the story that much more bitter tasting/soul destroying.
  • These stories have become my bedtime ritual for over a year now. I look forward to the last part of my day when I get to pick from hundreds of great stories and sublime narration. Much appreciated.
  • This is quickly becoming my favorite Channel. I've got lots of catching up to do on all this stuff you've put out there and I want to keep up on the new stuff as it comes out. I listened to the first story here on my way home from work. I got home and parked the car but the story wasn't anywhere near over yet. I just sat in the car and couldn't stop listening till I found out how it all ended. It was great and I don't know how I never encountered that story before. Thanks so much.
  • I was listening to The Family of the Vourdalak and was wondering what kind of drink could be made from Pears, honey, and raisins thinking it was probably fake for the story but I found out that it isn't fake and can be found on a site for Ukrainian cooking. Very interesting! 🥰

Fantastic selection! The Tolstoy story is one of 3 stories included in one of my all-time favorite movies..."Black Sabbath", Boris Karloff's performance as the grandfather is beyond brilliant and the script stayed true to the story, sans child flinging 😗 Thx so much for these treasures!

Not the little Match Girl!! The saddest story in the world!!!

1:02:00 you ever get so hungry you throw a javelin with a kid on the end to catch your food

Clara’s a good influence, we could all use someone this good in our lives. Trauma can really mess up a person’s worldview. A story that still chills through the ages. Great reading as always, too.
  • HorrorBabble is definitely the best audio books site there is. best readings hands down. The Sandman is one of my favorites. i have listened to this one several times....oh oh good night my dear friend!
  • @Vates104
Thank you, Horror Babble, for reading all these stories, both familiar and unknown. I absolutely love your narration. And I am pleased by your choices.
  • Hoffman had a fantastic imagination. Der Sandmann is his best and most bizarre. His original Nutcracker and Mouse King is far different than Tchaikovsky's ballet.
  • @KimmyLambert
Your narration skills have come a LONG WAY! I subbed today!
