The US hasn't been paying much attention to Africa and treated it as an afterthought for some reason ("Black continent?"). There has been a sudden interest especially due to China's influence in the region which happens to be the most resource rich on the planet.

In Transparency International's 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index, Kenya scored 31 on a scale from 0 ("highly corrupt") to 100 ("very clean"). When ranked by score, Kenya ranked 126th among the 180 countries in the Index, where the country ranked first is perceived to have the most honest public sector.

However, the Supreme Court of Kenya nullified the election, and a fresh election was held in October 2017. The opposition boycotted the fresh election and Uhuru and Ruto were re-elected with 98% of the total votes cast. The Supreme Court upheld the results of this second election.
