About two years ago โ€” after I had started my own small yoga/fitness business and was having trouble navigating the overwhelming sphere of social media marketing, I questioned EVERYTHING. I questioned if I was good enough, if I was an imposter, if I could be successful (or as successful as others appeared to be), if I needed to change myself in order to fit into what I was seeing others post on their socials, etc etc etc. I was letting outside stuff and people distract me, run me off course, and chip away at my confidence. UNTIL I met with my counselor who encouraged me to use my experience as a competitive swimmer to help steer me back into alignment.

Have you ever noticed the black line at the bottom of a swimming pool? Itโ€™s there so you can keep yourself on the straightest โ€” meaning your fastest, most efficient and successful โ€” course during a race. (The T near the wall is there as a guide to let you know when to perform your flip turn.) When my counselor used that imagery โ€” something that I was SO familiar with โ€” and recommended I โ€œfollow the black lineโ€ even when Iโ€™m out of the water, I felt an immediate shift in my attitude. It was one of the most powerful pieces of advice Iโ€™ve ever been given and has since become a bit of a mantra for me (in life, not just business). If I begin to feel myself paying too much attention to what others are doing or I need to refocus my attention back onto my own journey, I remind myself of her words and I course correct. Iโ€™ve come to realize that the only way for me to truly remain authentic to myself is to follow MY OWN black lineโ€ฆ no one elseโ€™s!

Maybe this strategy will help you as well. I hope so :-)
