3700 kW, 5000 V three-phase motor - startup test sound

See and hear the no-load test of a three-phase slip ring motor frame size 710. This replacement motor was built to be interchangeable with an old Siemens motor with base frame and pedestal sleeve bearings. It will power a large water pump, which will only be used at peak times in summer.

Menzel has the largest warehouse in Europe for large industrial motors and was able to meet the requirements with a three-phase slip ring motor having a shaft height of 710 mm, rated power 3700 kW and rated voltage 5000 V. Since the old, failed motor had a forged half coupling, Menzel procured and fitted a new coupling half. Modern day designs see motors having smaller centre heights than their predecessors. Therefore, in order to raise the new, more compact motor to the same shaft height as the existing unit, Menzel added an additional base frame, which met existing foundation fixing points.

At the original installation in the pump house, all supply cables come from below the foundation block. To accommodate this arrangement, and save site work/costs, we moved the terminal boxes on the replacement motor. This way the new replica fits 1:1 on the cabling system and can be put into operation immediately.

Menzel supplies electric motors all over the world. Most of our three-phase and DC motors are replacements for existing obsolete designs. We reproduce existing motors identically in all motor types and performance classes - from 100 kW crane motors to mill or pump drives in the megawatt range.

Replicating electric motors, which are no longer available today, is one of the tailor-made motor solutions from MENZEL Elektromotoren. Often a specific electric motor is manufactured for a specific application. If this is to be replaced, an almost identical machine with matching mechanical and electical interfaces must be available. We build customized electric motors so that they fit 100% on your system, or we make them fit by customized adjustments.

Our engineering department is well prepared to replace existing motors with new identical models. This saves high conversion costs and long downtimes on site. In addition, you avoid changes to your production systems, the consequences of which are often difficult to understand.

If you are looking for electric motors from manufacturers such as Siemens or ABB that are no longer available, we can replicate them at our modern and well-equipped Berlin location.

This one has a real sound of power thank you I really appreciate your sharing.
  • Many people might not know you, but at least please know that we know and love you. Love the sound of technology spinning. 👍
  • A three megawatt motor just sittin' there spinning so quickly and quietly is a hell of an intimidating thing. Incredibly useful, too, and it's pretty impressive how little vibration there is in that beast of a motor throughout the range of RPMs shown.
