We got a tractor back from my father in law and one from my Dad. Glad you got 2 of your family’s tractors back!

I love that tractor. Glad you guys got it back. Did your grandpa buy it new?👍💯 No technician needed if you have problems. Unlike the ones we use. Breaking down sucks with these internationals. But they sure are comfortable though.

You might already know this but after it has sat awhile, before starting I recommend checking the oil. Also loosen the engine oil drain plug carefully until something comes out.. if all you get it is good. If the first thing to come out is coolant, not so good. Drain that off until you get oil and take note of how much you get. If just a few drops or a tiny amount, Run it, but check oil often and check drain plug again the next day before start-up... 8640's are notorious for having head or head gasket problems. Also there are liners that can let coolant in the oil. Also, at least where I am, the 619 engines are obsolete and hard to find.

That is so cool to buy back a tractor/s your family once owned. I keep hoping I’ll stumble across my old JD 5020.

I have 2 8640's and 8650. Personally, except for when the hood needs lifted, Imo the 8640's are easier to do daily oil and coolant checks and crop ups. Because on 8650 you have to lift the hood every time to check or add coolant or to add oil. The 8640's you only need to lift hood to fix a problem under there.

My dad currently has 2 tractors that belonged to his Grandfather, and I have one that was my grandfather’s

Kool find i love these old jd. But Yall better get somebody who know what they're doing. Cause yall gon, burn something up, or ruin a good engine if fuel is primed up properly no starter fluid is needed but it Is your video keep them coming

Why is someone not using this valuable asset on their farm. At 275 hp this would fit right in with the modern tractors except for technology - but that too can be added.
  • @GMT400Chevy
As long as the fuel system is fully primed, there shouldnt be any need for either on a warm day. As long as the starter works they fire right up.

This is so cool. I frequently wonder where my dad's Ford 9600 is. Growing up, I spent a lot of time in that seat.
